THE FOND DU LAC BAND OF LAKE SUPERIOR CHIPPEWA WOULD GET $4 MILLION FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA TO PLAN FOR AND THEN MOVE WILD ELK FROM NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA IN CARLTON AND ST LOUIS UNDER A BILL HEARD TUESDAY IN A MINNESOTA HOUSE COMMITTEE. THAT WOULD BEGIN IN 2025. THE ELK WOULD BE TAKEN FROM KITTSON COUNTY, WHERE THE WILD HERD AND DNR, HAVE COME UNDER FIRE FROM FARMERS WHO SAY THE BIG ANIMALS WANDER ONTO THEIR FIELDS AND DAMAGE THEIR CROPS. THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS SINCE 2014.
YESTERDAY, GOVERNOR TIM WALZ DECLARED A PEACETIME EMERGENCY AND AUTHORIZED THE MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY RELIEF SERVICES FOR STRANDED MOTORISTS IN CLAY COUNTY AFTER THE HEAVY SNOWFALL AND STRONG WINDS. SOME MOTORISTS WERE STRANDED ON INTERSTATE 94 BETWEEN FERGUS FALLS AND MOORHEAD, ALONG WITH OTHER STATE HIGHWAYS, SOME FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE.
ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL HAD A KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAM PLACE FIRST AT MEET THIS WEEK. THAT TEAM CONSISTED OF GRANT OSWEILER, KIRA STEINHAUER, WYATT CUMMINGS, MIA KRINGS, AND SETH ERICKSON. ROSEAU ALSO PLACED ANOTHER TEAM IN 3RD AT THE SAME MEET. THAT TEAM WAS ERIC WENSLOFF, LELIA JOHNSON, MITCHELL BERGER AND LEVI STEINHAUER.
BORDER BANK IS GIVING IT’S CULTIVATE AWARD TO ROSEAU BRANCH RETAIL MANAGER CHRISTINE SIBILLEAU. THE BANK GIVES THREE AWARDS, ONE IN THE AREA OF SERVICE, ANOTHER IN COMMUNITY AND A THIRD IN INNOVATION. SIBILLEAU IS RECEIVING THE COMMUNITY AWARD FOR HER TIME AND EFFORT GIVEN TO COMMUNITY PROJECTS AND ORGANIZATIONS.
