THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK FOR BOTH A REGULAR MEETING AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING. AT THAT TIME THEY MADE NOMINATIONS FOR CHAIR, VICE CHAIR, CLERK, AND TREASURER.
DURING THE REGULAR MEETING THEY ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF SCHOOL COUNSELOR DAN URNESS, EFFECTIVE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
MORGAN BOROOS WILL BE TAKING OVER WADE HINSON’S 6TH GRADE CLASSROOM, AFTER HE WAS SELECTED AS THE NEW DEAN OF STUDENTS. KECIA STROOT AND TAMI OSWEILER WILL TAKE OVER FOR MS. BOROOS WHO LEAVES THE K-4 MUSIC PROGRAM.
THEY RECOGNIZED HARRY ROTH FOR HIS ESSAY WRITTEN IN A VETERAN’S DAY CONTEST. IT WAS SELECTED AS THIRD BEST IN THE STATE.
SUZETTE GAY THOMPSON OF THIEF RIVER FALLS IS RECEIVING FIVE YEARS OF SUPERVISED PROBATION FOR HAVING STARTED A FIRE AT AN EAST GRAND FORKS ISLAMIC CENTER IN 2022. SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE SHOWED HER USING A LIGHTER AND SPRAY TO START THAT FIRE. SHE DID SERVE 127 DAYS IN LOCAL JAIL PRIOR TO HER SENTENCING.
ONE MALE VICTIM HAS DIED AFTER A MONDAY APARTMENT FIRE IN WARREN. THEY REPORT THE PERSON HAD COME HOME WITH GROCERIES, SET THEM ON TOP OF THE KITCHEN RANGE, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY ON, AND THOSE CAUGHT FIRE. THE VICTIM SUFFERED SMOKE INHALATION AND BURNS, AND EVENTUALLY DIED AFTER ENDING UP A BURN UNIT IN MINNEAPOLIS. HE HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED.
THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM ALONG WITH THE ROSEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL HOLD TEDDY BEAR TEA ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND, A FREE EVENT FOR ALL AGES. ENJOY TEA/JUICE, BITE SIZED TREATS, CRAFTS, GAMES AND MORE WITH FRIENDS AND YOUR FAVORITE STUFFED FRIEND. THAT IS FROM 2-3 IN THE AFTERNOON.
WARROAD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IS HOSTING AN OPEN HOUSE ON THURSDAY WHERE THEY WILL WELCOME NEWLY HIRED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SARAH CARLING. THE EVENT IS FROM 3-6 PM AT 112 MAIN AVE NE IN WARROAD.
A BENEFIT FOR MARTIN HOLMES WILL BE AT THE WARROAD EAGLES THIS SUNDAY FROM 11A-2P. THEY’LL SERVE ROAST PORK, WITH MASHED POTATOES, CORN, COLESLAW, BUNS AND DESSERTS. PROCEEDS WILL HELP WITH MEDICAL AND TRAVEL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH TREATMENT FOR PROSTATE CANCER.
A 63-YEAR OLD MAN FROM CEYLON, MINNESOTA (NEAR GRAND RAPIDS) HAS ADMITTED TO KILLING A FEDERALLY PROTECTED GREY WOLF FROM HIS DEER STAND. STEVEN PAVICH TOLD CONSERVATION OFFICERS THAT HE “HAS HIS OWN OPINIONS ON WOLVES” AND SIMPLY WANTED THE ANIMAL “OUT OF THERE”. HE SAID HE KNEW THERE ARE WOLF PROTECTIONS AND WAS NOT BEING THREATENED BY THE ANIMAL AT THE TIME.
TODAY, GOVERNOR TIM WALZ AND LT GOVERNOR PEGGY FLANAGAN WILL BE PRESENTING THEIR PROPOSED 2025 BUDGET.
A funeral service for Eleanor M. Snow will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2pm at Pine Grove Lutheran Church of Wannaska, MN. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church, Interment will be held at Falun Cemetery at a later date.
Eleanor Snow passed away at the age of 102.
A Memorial Service for Mark M. Emery of Greenbush, MN will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 10:00AM at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 5-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush, MN. Interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery.
Mark passed away at the age of 44.
