US SENATOR AMY KLOBUCHAR SENT A LETTER TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY REQUESTING INFORMATION ON THE INVESTIGATION AND THE DEPARTMENT’S PLANS TO COMBAT HUMAN SMUGGLING, FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF THE INDIAN FAMILY OF FOUR, FOUND NEAR THE CANADIAN BORDER LAST WEEK, THAT FROZE TO DEATH IN BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS. SHE SAID IN THE LETTER THAT SHE APPRECIATES THE EFFORTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION, BUT THIS TRAGIC INCIDENT ILLUSTRATES THAT THERE IS MORE WORK TO BE DONE.

AUTHORITIES HAVE CHARGED 21 PEOPLE FOR THEIR ALLEGED INVOLVEMENT IN A DRUG-TRAFFICKING ORGANIZATION, TRANSPORTING AND SELLING MORE THAN 10 POUNDS OF HEROIN AND FENTANYL ACROSS NORTHERN MINNESOTA. 23-YEAR OLD NICHOLAS CALLOWAY SUPPOSEDLY LED THE GROUP, SELLING MORE THAN 18,000 INDIVIDUAL DOSES FROM JUNE TO DECEMBER. SALES WERE DOCUMENTED IN DULUTH, CLOQUET AND OTHER REGIONS OF ST. LOUIS AND CARLTON COUNTIES.

IN TALKING MORE BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS, GOVERNOR WALZ SAYS HE BACKS THE LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA IN MINNESOTA. HIS PROPOSAL INCLUDED INFORMATION ON THE FORMATION OF A CANNABIS MANAGEMENT OFFICE, GRANTS FOR BUSINESS OWNERS, AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS. HE ALSO DISCUSSED THE POTENTIAL TAXES ON THE SALE, AND EXPUNGEMENT OF NON-VIOLENT OFFENSES INVOLVING MARIJUANA.

MINNESOTANS LOOKING FOR HELP WITH BACK RENT HAVE UNTIL 9 PM FRIDAY TO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FOR THE RENT-HELP-MN RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, THAT HAS ALREADY SUPPLIED NEARLY $350 MILLION TO 46,000 HOUSEHOLDS STATEWIDE. THE PROGRAM STILL HAS ABOUT $100 MILLION FEDERAL DOLLARS TO DISTRIBUTE. WITH INFLATION UP, OMICRON STILL CAUSING WORK DIFFICULTIES, AND THE FACT THAT MANY FAMILIES DID NOT RECEIVE THE MONTHLY CHILD TAX CREDIT PAYMENT IN JANUARY HAVE LED TO AN INCREASE IN APPLICATIONS.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR DORAN E. HORNER OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD THIS MORNING (11 AM) AT UNION CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN WARROAD. VISITATION WILL BE HELD ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE. DORAN HORNER WAS 92.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BOTH EVONNE M. LANE AND MARVIN J. SHAUGABAY OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD TOMORROW (2 PM) AT THE WARROAD COMMUNITY CHURCH. THERE WILL BE VISITATION THIS EVENING (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR LEW A. ERICKSON OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD MONDAY (11 AM) AT MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. INTERMENT WILL BE AT MICKINOCK CEMETERY IN WANNASKA AT A LATER DATE. LEW ERICKSON WAS 65.

THE ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL ONE ACT PROGRAM HAS A PUBLIC PERFORMANCE OF THEIR PLAY “THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR” THIS EVENING AT 7 PM IN THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATER. THE PLAY DOES CONTAIN SOME MATURE STORY LINES. THERE IS NO ADMISSION FEE.
