HUNTERS SHOT FEWER TURKEYS THIS SPRING THAN IN 2020 IN BOTH MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN, AT LEAST IN PART BECAUSE FEWER HUNTERS WENT AFIELD. AMID THE PANDEMIC, LAST YEAR A RECORD NUMBER OF HUNTERS PROCEEDED TO KILL A RECORD NUMBER OF TURKEYS, 13,944. THIS YEAR HUNTER NUMBERS DROPPED BY 5000, BUT STILL MANGANGED TO A BAG 11,992 TURKEYS. THAT’S ROUGHLY AN 8% DROP IN HUNTERS AND A 14% DROP IN TURKEY HARVEST.
THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS HIRED DANIEL DAVIDSON AS AN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CO-DIRECTOR. DAVIDSON IS A RECENTLY RETIRED BLUE EARTH COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF, WHO HAS ALSO BEEN AN ASSISTANT EMERGENCY MANAGER AND JAIL DISPATCH ADMINISTRATOR DURING HIS CAREER. SUE GRAFSTROM IS ROSEAU COUNTY’S EMERGENCY MANAGER.
ROSEAU COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES HAS HIRED KIERAH KIMBROUGH JENSON AS A FAMILY-BASED SERVICES WORKER. SHE IS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY NORTHWEST COMMUNITY ACTION.
PROVISIONS SET FORTH BY SENATOR AMY KLOBUCHAR TO IMPROVE PASSENGER SAFETY AND COMBAT DISTRACTED DRIVING HAVE PASSED THE SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE AND WILL HEAD TO THE SENATE FLOOR. THESE WOULD EXPAND ON LAWS BANNING NON-NAVIGATIONAL MOBILE DEVICE USE AND PROVIDE FUNDING FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON THE DNAGERS OF DISTRACTED DRIVING.
ACCORDING TO A NEW SURVEY FROM THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATION, 94 PERCENT OF NURSING HOMES AND 81 PERCENT OF ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES ARE FACING A STAFFING SHORTAGE. MORE THAN FIFTY PERCENT OF THOSE SAID KEY STAFF MEMBERS QUIT DURING THE PANDEMIC.

DEREK CHAUVIN WILL RETURN TO HENNEPIN COUNTY DISTRICT COURT TOMORROW, WHERE HE COULD BE SENTENCED TO A PRISON FOR UP TO 30 YEARS FOR THE MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD. STATE SENTENCING GUIDELINES RECOMMEND PRISON SENTENCES OF 12 1/2 YEARS FOR FIRST-TIME OFFENDERS WHO, LIKE CHAUVIN, ARE CONVICTED OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER. BUT IN SEEKING A LONGER SENTENCE, PROSECUTORS ASKED CAHILL TO CONSIDER FIVE “AGGRAVATED SENTENCING FACTORS.”
