TODAY GOVERNOR WALZ IS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE SOME UNIQUE INCENTIVES FOR THOSE WHO DECIDE TO GET THEIR COVID VACCINATION SHOT BETWEEN THIS WEEKEND AND THE END OF JUNE. THE “YOUR SHOT TO SUMMER” CAMPAIGN IS EXPECTED TO OFFER THINGS SUCH AS FREE STATE PARK PASSES AND FISHING LICENSES, AND PERHAPS STATE FAIR AND AMUSEMENT PARK PASSES.
FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ROGER DIDRIKSON OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY (10 AM) AT FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, SOUTH OF BADGER. VISITATION WILL BE TOMORROW EVENING (5:00-7:00) WITH A 7:00 PRAYER SERVICE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. ROGER DIDRIKSON WAS 66.
FIVE ADULT DOES AND SEVEN FAWNS HAVE ALL TESTED POSITIVE FOR CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE IN THE INFECTED BELTRAMI COUNTY FARMED DEER HERD. ONE DEER TESTED POSITIVE IN APRIL, SPURRING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE OTHER 54 ANIMALS IN THE HERD. OF THE TWELVE, 9 WERE BORN ON THE BELTRAMI FARM, WHILE THREE WERE MOVED TO THE FARM FROM OTHER MINNESOTA HERDS.
INMATES AT TWO OF NORTH DAKOTA’S BIGGEST JAILS HAVE NO OPPORTUNITY TO GET COVID-19 VACCINATIONS AFTER LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADERS OPTED NOT TO MAKE THE JAB AVAILABLE. BURLEIGH COUNTY SHERIFF KELLY LEBEN AND WILLIAMS COUNTY SHERIFF VERLAN KVANDE SAID THE JAILS THEY OVERSEE AREN’T OFFERING VACCINATIONS TO THOSE BEHIND BARS DESPITE PROPOSALS FROM LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCIES TO PROVIDE SHOTS. LEBEN SAID THAT HIS STAFF ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT IS RIGHT FOR INMATES AND THE TAXPAYERS WHO PICK UP THE TAB FOR THEIR CARE, WHILE OTHERS ARE SAYING THAT MAKING THAT DECISION FOR THE INMATES IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE.
