THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS DOING AERIAL MAPPING PHOTOGRAPHY ON HIGHWAY 75 BETWEEN HALLOCK AND DONALDSON;

AND ON HIGHWAY 71 FROM BLACKDUCK TO TURTLE RIVER.

THAT PROJECT IS DONE FOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND HIGHWAY DESIGN.

 

THE MINNESOTA PUBLIC FACILITIES AUTHORITY HAS ANNOUNCED MORE THAN TWENTY-THREE MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF WATER INFRASTRUCTURE LOANS AND GRANTS;

INCLUDING JUST UNDER ONE AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS FOR TWIN VALLEY’S  DRINKING WATER TREATMENT PLANT REHABILITATION.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS HAD ABOUT A DOZEN INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS,  AFFECTING TOWNS,  FIELDS AND ROADS.

STATE CLIMATE OFFICIALS SAY MINNESOTA IS SEEING MORE RAIN THAN BEFORE;  THE  D.N.R. CLIMATE OFFICE SAYS RAINFALL EVENTS OF MORE THAN THREE INCHES HAVE INCREASED  SIXTY-FIVE PERCENT THIS CENTURY.

ALBERT LEA MAYOR VERNE RASMUSSEN, JUNIOR  SAYS HIS TOWN IS ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE BECAUSE IT’S A LAKE COMMUNITY.

RASMUSSEN SAYS ALBERT LEA IS WORKING WITH STATE LEGISLATORS TO LET THE CITY INVEST IN FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECTS OUTSIDE IT’S BORDERS.

 

THE  MINNESOTA D.N.R.’S RECENT SMALL GAME HUNTER SURVEY SHOWED THE LOWEST NUMBER OF SMALL GAME AND WATERFOWL HUNTERS SINCE THE AGENCY STARTED KEEPING TRACK IN 1969.

FACTORS INCLUDE LIMITED ACCESS TO HUNTING LANDS AND CHANGING RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE NATURAL WORLD.

JOHN WILLIAMS,  AT THE D.N.R. REGIONAL OFFICE IN BEMIDJI,  SAYS THE NUMBER OF DEER HUNTERS IS ALSO DECLINING.

 

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  MET WITH AUDITOR COLLEEN HOFFMAN –  WHO PRESENTED THE COUNTY’S 2018 AUDIT REPORT.

HOFFMAN SAID THE COUNTY’S FUND BALANCES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, AND THAT ROSEAU COUNTY HAS MORE THAN NINETY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS IN ASSETS.

HOFFMAN IS PART OF A TASK FORCE WORKING WITH STATE AUDITOR JULIE BLAHA ON AUDIT COMPLIANCE.

 

A UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA NEWS STORY FOCUSSES ON ROSEAU’S IVY BRAATEN,  WHO IS A HEALTH SERVICES MANAGEMENT MAJOR.   SHE INTERNED AT LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER IN ROSEAU THIS PAST SUMMER,  AND SAYS SHE WOULD LIKE TO EVENTUALLY WORK IN A RURAL HEALTH CARE SETTING.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  THIS WEEK,  HEARD FROM FIRE CHIEF CRAIG McMILLIN –  WHO SAID LAST MONTH’S BARBEQUE AND BALL HAD 650 PEOPLE ATTEND;  THAT’S THE MOST SINCE  2016.

McMILLIN SAID THE EVENT RAISED ABOUT TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.

 

THE AGRICULTURAL UTILIZATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE  (AURI)  HAS RELEASED A REPORT ON MINNESOTA’S GROWIN HEMP INDUSTRY.

HAROLD STANISLAWSKI, WITH  AURI,  SAYS THERE ARE PRODUCT OPPORTUNITIES FOR HEMP IN FOOD,  FUEL,  FIBER,  FEED AND  C.B.D. OIL;

AND HE SAYS THE CROP COULD BECOME LARGER IN THE STATE.

A MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BREAKFAST HONORING AREA MANUFACTURERS IS NOVEMBER 5TH AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

 

A FRIENDS AND FAMILY SERVICE FOR VIRGINIA GERINGER OF SALOL IS THIS AFTERNOON AT FOUR  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.  BURIAL IS AT SPRUCE CEMETERY.

VIRGINIA GERINGER WAS  76.

 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HARVEY DALLAGER OF GREENBUSH IS SATURDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF GREENBUSH.   VISITATION IS TOMORROW EVENING AFTER SIX,  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE,  AT THE CHURCH.

HARVEY DALLAGER WAS  75.
