AN INCIDENT BETWEEN TWO JUVENILES AT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN GRAND FORKS ON MONDAY MORNING LED TO ONE STUDENT BEING TRANSPORTED TO ALTRU HOSPITAL FOR NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SAID THE “ALTERCATION” BEGAN OVER THE WEEKEND OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, AND CARRIED OVER INTO MONDAY MORNING. NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED TO THIS POINT.

NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA’S MOOSE POPULATION CONTINUES TO HOLD STEADY AFTER SOME TOUGH TIMES IN THE EARLY 2000’S. THE MINNESOTA DNR REPORTED THE POPULATION SURVEY AT 4,700 MOOSE, VIRTUALLY UNCHANGED FROM THE 2020 SURVEY. THE POPULATION HAD BEEN AS LOW AS 2,700 IN 2013.

A PROPOSAL IN THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE THAT WOULD CONTINUE FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL STUDENTS IN MINNESOTA SCHOOLS NEXT YEAR CLEARED A COMMITTEE THIS WEEK. THE BILL WOULD SET ASIDE NEARLY $229 MILLION FOR THAT SERVICE. THAT PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING, BUT HAS BEEN FUNDED SO FAR BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE.

THE GREENBUSH BADGER LIONS CLUB, WITH THE LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION, ARE HOLDING A PANCAKE BENEFIT BREAKFAST TO HELP THE REFUGEES AND DISPLACED PERSONS FUND, ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONFLICT IN UKRAINE. THE BREAKFAST IS A FREEWILL DONATION, ON SUNDAY, APRIL 24 FROM 9:30-12:30 AT THE GREENBUSH COMMUNITY CENTER.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HELEN KRUEGER OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD THIS FRIDAY (2 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE HELD ONE HOUR PRIOR. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE. HELEN KATE (PRZEKWAS) KRUEGER PASSED AWAY MARCH 18, SHE WAS 97.

THIS WEEK IS MINNESOTA SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK. A STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY AT BOTH 1:45 AND 6:45 IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT TORNADO SHELTERS IN ROSEAU COUNTY INCLUDE BADGER CITY HALL BASEMENT, GREENBUSH HIGH SCHOOL, THE AMERICAN LEGION BASEMENT, SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH BASEMENT, AND ROSEAU SCHOOL IN ROSEAU, SALOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, AND GARDENS ARENA IN WARROAD.

CITY BALL REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR YOUNG BALL PLAYERS IN ROSEAU. THOSE PROGRAMS ARE FOR THOSE 4-8 YEARS OF AGE.

THE ROSEAU TEACHERS ASSOCIATION IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP. CANDIDATES MUST BE A GRADUATE OF ROSEAU COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND WILL BE A COLLEGE JUNIOR OR SENIOR NEXT YEAR, MAJORING IN AN EDUCATIONAL FIELD AND HAVE A GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 3.0 OR HIGHER. FORMS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE.

A man accused in the beating death of a woman on the Red Lake Indian Reservation has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. William Jones IV pleaded guilty last year to one count of second-degree murder for the 2019 killing at the victim’s house located on the north side of Lower Red Lake. Authorities say the 24-year-old Jones repeatedly assaulted the woman by hitting her and throwing her against the wall. Prosecutors said the woman remained unconscious in the house for two days and Jones did nothing to help her. The victim died in Fargo, North Dakota hospital 16 days after the assault.
