MANY MAY ASSUME THAT THE BALD EAGLE IS THE NATIONAL BIRD OF THE UNITED STATES, BUT THAT IS NOT THE CASE. AMY KLOBUCHAR, TINA SMITH, BRAD FINSTAD, AND ANGIE CRAIG (ALL MINNESOTA POLITICIANS) ANNOUNCED THAT LEGISLATION TO MAKE IT OFFICIALLY THE NATIONAL BIRD HAS PASSED AND WILL GO TO THE PRESIDENTS DESK TO BE SIGNED. THE EAGLE HAS BEEN USED IN THE GREAT SEAL SINCE 1782.
INFLATION AND THE REDUCTION IN FEDERAL BENEFITS HAS LEAD TO INCREASED FOOD INSECURITY AND MINNESOTA OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE PROJECTING A RECORD 9 MILLION FOOD SHELF VISITS IN THE STATE THIS YEAR. THAT WOULD BE 1.5 MILLION MORE THAN THE RECORD SET JUST A YEAR AGO. SIX COUNTIES HAVE NOTED A USAGE DECREASE, WHILE TEN (INCLUDING KITTSON COUNTY) HAVE NOTED A SIZABLE INCREASE. THE STORY ALSO NOTED, A MAJORITY OF FOOD SHELF USERS ONLY USE IT THREE TIMES ANNUALLY, SHOWING THAT THEY GENERALLY ARE THE WORKING CLASS WHO NEEDS SOME ASSISTANCE FROM TIME TO TIME.
A RUBY’S PANTRY EVENT IN ROSEAU WAS POSTPONED FROM LAST THURSDAY TO THIS THURSDAY ON ACCOUNT OF THE EXTREME COLD.

THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL SPOKE ON PARTNERSHIPS WITH MARVIN AND POLARIS, WHILE THE ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL GAVE AN UPDATE ON THE NUMBER OF FUN THINGS HAPPENING THROUGH THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
Kraig Lee, 70 of Wannaska, MN passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 5-7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska at 10 am with visitation one hr prior.
A funeral service for Bruce A. Chapman of Baudette, MN will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, Minnesota. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Bruce passed away at the age of 85.
A Funeral Service for Lorne L. Olson will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 12:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 5-7Pm at Helgeson Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Golden Valley Cemetery in Wannaska.
Lorne passed away at the age of 67.
