The DNR will contract with a helicopter crew that specializes in aerial capture to catch and collar up to 25 cows and 15 bulls each during the winters of 2025 and 2026, for a total of 80 adult elk. it’s an attempt to learn more about reproduction and survival rates. all three of Minnesota elk herds will be included, all three of those in Northwest Minnesota… the Kittson Central herd, the Caribou-Vita herd, and the Grygla herd.

According to a leading national firm, farmland values continue to hold strong in 2024, but do show signs of settling. They said values and the numbers of listings and closings are holding close to what they saw in 2023, with a strong fall selling season on the way.

It has been learned that Crookston Police Officer Nicholas Fladland had been reprimanded for insubordination in December, and for engaging in personal activities, neglecting duties and not being properly equipped while on duty. He is the officer involved the two recent police officer involved fatal shootings. For his violations, he was placed into what they called a performance improvement plan.

A funeral service for Sonja Heyen of Roseau will take place on Friday, August 3, 2024 at Spruce Free Lutheran Church in Roseau at 11:00 am with a visitation an hour prior.
