MINNESOTA’S PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL CLOSE TOMORROW, AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED THROUGH MARCH 27TH DUE TO CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS.
STUDENTS WILL TRANSITION TO ONLINE LEARNING, AND MANY WORKERS WILL DO THEIR JOBS REMOTELY;
BUT THAT COULD PROVE A CHALLENGE IN GREATER MINNESOTA, WHERE BROADBAND ACCESS IS SOMETIMES LIMITED OR UNAVAILABLE.
IT’S ESTIMATED SEVENTEEN PERCENT OF MINNESOTANS DON’T HAVE BROADBAND ACCESS.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, LAST NIGHT, MADE AN EMERGENCY DECLARATION DUE TO THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK. MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI’S DECLARATION WAS MADE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF FUTURE STATE AND FEDERAL HELP AND FUNDING.
THE COUNCIL WAS MEETING IN EMERGENCY SESSION FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE 2002 FLOOD.

 

ROSEAU BOY SCOUTS AND CUB SCOUTS WILL BE SCOUTING FOR FOOD THIS EVENING (5-6 PM); THAT COLLECTED FOOD WILL BE DONATED TO THE ROSEAU FOOD SHELF.

 

THE BADGER HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL REVUE, CALLED “A JOURNEY THROUGH THE DECADES” WAS SCHEDULED THURSDAY AND FRIDAY EVENING; THAT SHOW HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, LAST WEEK, APPROVED A SAFETY TRAINING CONTRACT FOR HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES,
WITH NORTHLAND COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

 

THE RED RIVER FARM NETWORK SAYS A LOWER SPRING PRICE FOR CORN AND SOYBEAN REVENUE INSURANCE COULD HAVE AN IMPACT ON PLANTED ACREAGE.

 

A RISK FOR SPRING FLOODING IN ROSEAU COUNTY HAS BEEN LOWERED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE,
IN PART BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS.
THE WEATHER SERVICE SAYS THERE IS AN APPROXIMATE TWENTY PERCENT CHANCE FOR MODERATE FLOODING IN ROSEAU COUNTY.

 

‘WIC’ CLINICS ARE TODAY IN KARLSTAD, AND TOMORROW AND THURSDAY AT LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER IN ROSEAU.

 

2020 CENSUS LETTERS WERE MAILED LAST WEEK, AND COMPLETION OF THE CENSUS FORM IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN MINNESOTA,
WHERE THE STATE COULD LOSE ONE OF IT’S CONGRESSIONAL SEATS; AND SIGNIFICANT FEDERAL FUNDING.
FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE CENSUS FORM CAN BE COMPLETED ONLINE.

 

LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER IN ROSEAU HAS BEEN NAMED ONE OF THE TOP ONE HUNDRED CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITALS IN THE UNITED STATES.
IT’S THE SECOND TIME THE ROSEAU HOSPITAL HAS BEEN HONORED.
LIFECARE IS ONE OF 78 CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITALS IN MINNESOTA; THERE ARE MORE THIRTEEN HUNDRED ACROSS THE NATION.

 

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR RON JOHNSON OF ROOSEVELT ARE POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE. THEY HAD BEEN SCHEDULED FOR THIS THURSDAY.

 

A PRIVATE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD FOR VELMA LUND OF WARROAD. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, THE FAMILY WOULD PREFER MEMORIALS BE MADE TO THE SWIFT LADIES AID AT ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, OR TO THE WILLIAMS SENIOR CENTER.

THE MINNESOTA D.N.R. IS POSTPONING DEER OPEN HOUSES SCHEDULED NEXT WEEK. TWO OF THOSE OPEN HOUSES WERE IN ROSEAU AND WARROAD.
THE D.N.R. IS ALSO POSTPONING ELK INPUT MEETINGS IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA.

 

A PANCAKE BREAKFAST BENEFIT FOR ORIN SWART, SCHEDULED MARCH 29TH, IS CANCELLED.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED FROM TOMORROW THROUGH MARCH 27TH AS TEACHERS PLAN FOR DISTANCE LEARNING, SHOULD THE CLOSURE BE EXTENDED.
SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR PETE KVIEN SAYS IT’S OBVIOUSLY BEEN THE PRIMARY FOCUS SINCE LATE LAST WEEK.
BY ORDER OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA, SCHOOLS MUST PROVIDE CHILD CARE DURING THE CLOSURE FOR ELEMENTARY-AGED KIDS OF HEALTH CARE AND EMERGENCY WORKERS, AND CHILDREN OF SCHOOL EMPLOYEES … SCHOOLS MUST MAKE MEALS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS …. THERE WILL BE NO DELIVERY OF EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTION DURING THE SHUTDOWN … AND THE ROSEAU SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.
