MONDAY WILL BE VETERANS DAY, AND THERE WILL BE LIVE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AT THE ROSEAU AND WARROAD SCHOOL. ROSEAU’S PROGRAM WILL BE AT 2 PM, WHILE WARROAD WILL HOLD THEIR’S AT 9 AM.

POLLS ARE OPEN TONIGHT UNTIL 8 PM IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. ON TOP OF THE NATIONAL AND STATE RACES, ANY NUMBER OF RACES ARE BEING HELD FOR CITY COUNCIL SEATS, SCHOOL BOARD SEATS, COUNTY COMMISSIONER SEATS, AND MAYORAL RACES. A NUMBER OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE QUESTIONS ON REFERENDUMS AS WELL.

A MAN AND FIVE CHILDREN, AGES 6-14, WERE HURT IS A SUSPECTED PROPANE EXPLOSION NEAR BAGLEY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. IT HAPPENED AT A STORAGE UNIT, WHERE THEY SUSPECT A PROPANE TANK HAD BEEN LEAKING AND THE MAN LIT A CIGARETTE SHORTLY AFTER OPENING THE DOOR. THAT CALL CAME IN JUST AFTER NOON.

SIX YOUNG DUCK HUNTERS HAD BE RESCUED ON EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AFTER THEIR BOAT CAPSIZED ON LEECH LAKE. THEY SPENT TIME IN THE ROUGHLY 40-DEGREE WATER AND WERE ALL TREATED FOR MILD SIGNS OF HYPOTHERMIA BUT NO OTHER MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED.

IN A STUDY FROM WALLETHUB, THEY HAVE NAMED NORTHLAND COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE #1 IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA. THAT IS BASED UPON THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION, CAREER OUTCOMES, AFFORDABILITY AND OTHER MEASURES.

THERE IS AN APPLICATION DEADLINE OF NOVEMBER 15 FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN A YOUNG AND EMERGING FARMERS WORKSHOP TO BE HELD IN JANUARY IN MANKATO. THE PROGRAM IS FREE AND LODGING EXPENSES ARE ALSO COVERED IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED. REQUIREMENTS ARE BEING BETWEEN THE AGE OF 21-45 AND MUST BE ACTIVELY CROP FARMING IN MINNESOTA. THE PROGRAM LOOKS AT TOPICS RELEVANT TO THOSE EARLY IN THEIR FARMING CAREERS.

THE MAIN FIREARMS DEER SEASON OPENS THIS WEEKEND. SOME NUMBERS ARE IN FROM THE YOUTH SEASON, WHERE ROUGHLY 6000 DEER WERE HARVESTED STATEWIDE, THAT WAS UP 10% FROM A YEAR AGO, AND DOWN 7% FROM THE FIVE YEAR AVERAGE. THE EARLY ANTLERLESS SEASON WAS DEEMED TO HAVE NO CHANGE FROM A YEAR AGO, WHILE THE ARCHERY NUMBERS TO THIS POINT ARE DOWN 3%.

A MISSIONARY FROM A DETROIT LAKES AREA CHURCH WAS KILLED ON OCTOBER 25 WHILE HE AND HIS FAMILY SERVED IN ANGOLA, AFRICA. HIS WIFE HAS SINCE BEEN ARRESTED IN THAT MURDER INVESTIGATION AND IT LEAVES THEIR FIVE CHILDREN IN THAT COUNTRY WITHOUT PARENTAL SUPERVISION, ALTHOUGH THEY NOTED, NOT UN-CARED FOR. MUCH SPECULATION AND CONFUSION REMAINS FOR THOSE CLOSE TO SITUATION HERE IN THE UNITED STATES, AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

A Memorial Service for Delores M. Bodenhamer will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:00AM at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Mickinock Cemetery, rural Wannaska, MN.
She passed away at the age of 87.
