THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETS IN REGULAR SESSION TODAY.
FROM THEIR LAST MEETING, THEY HELD A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE ORDINANCE TO REGULATE CANNABIS BUSINESSES, WITH A COUPLE OF ORAL COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC. THEY NOTED HOWEVER THAT THEY DID NOT MEET THE PUBLISHING REQUIREMENTS FOR THAT PUBLIC HEARING, AND HAVE NOW SCHEDULED A SECOND ONE FOR OCTOBER 22.
THEY ALSO APPROVED 2025 LEVIES AND BUDGETS FROM UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIPS.
JASON BRAATEN WAS REAPPOINTED TO A THREE YEAR TERM ON THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT BOARD.
RICK SIKORSKI WILL FILL AN OPEN POSITION ON THE TWO RIVERS WATERSHED DISTRICT BOARD.
GOVERNOR TIM WALZ IS SENDING AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM TO FLORIDA AHEAD OF HURRICANE MILTON MAKING LANDFALL THERE, EXPECTED TO HAPPEN TOMORROW.
WALZ HAS ALSO ORDER FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF STAFF IN HONOR PARK RANGER KEVIN GROSSHEIM, WHO DIED WHILE ATTEMPTING A WATER RESCUE OF A FAMILY IN VOYAGEURS NATIONAL PARK.
AFTER A DRY AND WARM SEPTEMBER, THE FALL HARVEST IS PROGRESSING RAPIDLY FOR MANY WITH CORN AND SOYBEAN CROPS. THE YIELDS ON THOSE CROPS ARE EXPECTED TO BE HIGHLY VARIABLE, DUE TO WETTER CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS IN EARLIER PART OF THE GROWING SEASON.
STARTING MARCH OF NEXT YEAR HUNTERS IN MINNESOTA WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AND STORE THEIR LICENSE, STAMP OR TRAIL PASS, IN A MOBILE APP. THAT APP WILL ALSO FEATURE A “E-NOTCH” FOR TAGGING THE ANIMAL THAT YOU HAVE HARVESTED. THE PAPER TAGS WILL NO LONGER BE ISSUED, BUT WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO PRINT YOURSELF IF YOU PREFER THAT METHOD. THE APP AND TAG WILL WORK EVEN WITHOUT A CELL SIGNAL. A CONSERVATION OFFICER IF NEEDED, WOULD SCAN A QR CODE TO VERIFY THE STATUS OF YOUR TAG.
SECOND HALF TAXES ON ALL REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY, EXCLUDING FARM CLASSIFICATIONS AND MOBILE ARE DUE ON OCTOBER 15. THOSE OTHERS ARE DUE NEXT MONTH ON NOVEMBER 15.
