FROM THE GRAND FORKS HERALD, IN AN OUT-OF-COURT SETTLEMENT, WARROAD GIRLS HOCKEY COACH DAVID MARVIN HAS WON A DEFAMATION CASE, AFTER SIX INDIVIDUALS ADMITTED TO SHARING INFORMATION WHICH WAS UNTRUE AND DAMAGED HIS REPUTATION. ALL PARTIES MADE WRITTEN APOLOGIES AND ONE FAMILY MADE A SIZABLE CHARITABLE DONATION TO SETTLE THE MATTER.
THIS DATES BACK TO OCTOBER OF 2023 WHEN A LETTER WAS WRITTEN AND MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA COMMENTS WERE MADE ACCUSING HIM OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, AND ABUSE OF HIS PLAYERS.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK. DURING THAT MEETING THEY MOVED TO ACCEPT DONATIONS THAT WILL GO TOWARDS THE ROSEAU GAZEBO CONCERT SERIES FUND. DONATING WERE BORDER BANK, KARL MANUFACTURING, NORTHERN RESOURCES, THE ROSEAU AMERICAN LEGION, CITIZENS STATE BANK, POLARIS, R&Q TRUCKING, AND DAVIDSON CONSTRUCTION. THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL ALSO PRESENTED GRANT MONEY TO BE USED TOWARDS THE CONCERTS.

ERIC NERLAND AND BRITTNEY PETERSON WITH LAKE OF THE WOODS CANNABIS COMPANY PRESENTED ON THE POTENTIAL SALE OF CANNABIS IN THE CITY OF ROSEAU AND OPENING A STORE FRONT IN CITY LIMITS. THE CITY CURRENTLY HAS A MORATORIUM IN PLACE UNTIL JANUARY 1. ACCORDING TO THE STATE, BASED ON POPULATION, TWO LICENSES FOR THOSE BUSINESSES WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE IN ROSEAU COUNTY. COUNTY COMMISSIONER JACK SWANSON SAID THE COUNTY HASN’T OFFCIALLY ACTED, BUT THAT NUMBER LOOKS TO BE CORRECT.

ROSEAU MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORE MANAGER NIKKI JOHNSON INFORMED THE COUNCIL THAT A PART TIME ASSISTAN MANAGER HAD BEEN HIRED AND THAT A ROSEAULIQUOR.COM WEBSITE IS NOW ACTIVE.

FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, CHIEF LEON HUOT ANNOUNCED THAT JEFF BALLARD RETIRED FROM THE DEPARTMENT IN JUNE AFTER 23 YEARS OF SERVICE.

FROM THE ROSEAU POLICE DEPARMTENT, OFFICER ZACH MANKA HAS RESIGNED, WHILE NEW OFFICER BRANDIN SCHUTZ HAS BEEN HIRED AND IS TRAINING, AND ANOTHER POTENTIAL HIRE IS IN THE BACKGROUND CHECK STAGES AND ANOTHER HAS APPLIED, MEANING THE DEPARTMENT COULD BE FULLY STAFFED BY FALL.

LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS A COMMUNITY DIVERSITY EVENT AT THE SPLASH PAD AREA TOMORROW FROM 3-6 P.M. LOCAL MEMBERS OF THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY WILL SHARE FOOD, MUSIC, AND MORE OF THEIR CULTURE. THERE WILL BE GAMES AND PRIZES, AND THE EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO ALL.
