CONSERVATION OFFICER REPORTS FROM THE PAST WEEK REPORTED INCREASED SNOWMOBILE ACTIVITY AS PEOPLE WERE HAPPY TO GET OUT WITH THE FRESH SNOW THAT HAD FALLEN. ICE FISHING ACTIVITY WAS FAIRLY NORMAL, WITH ONLY TYPICAL ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS TAKEN. ONE OFFICER HAS NOTED ABOUT HEARING MORE AND MORE OFTEN OF PHONES BEING DROPPED INTO HOLES. HE WATCHED ONE PERSON SUCCUMB TO THAT FATE AS THEY SCRAMBLED TO CONCEAL AN EXTRA LINE.
THE NORTHERN WATCH THIS PAST WEEKEND SHARED THE STORY OF SOPHIE AND SAM ANDERSON OF KARLSTAD, WHO ON JANUARY 11 HAD THEIR CHILD BORN IN THEIR VEHICLE ON AN EXIT RAMP ON I-29. SOPHIE HAD AWOKEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH CONTRACTIONS, AND IT DIDN’T LEAVE THEM TIME TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL. EMERGENCY CREWS MET THEM AND TRANSPORTED TO ALTRU HOSPITAL IN GRAND FORKS. ALL HEALTHY, THEY WERE DISCHARGED THE NEXT DAY.
IN ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD NOTES:
Roseau County will host the 2025 Association of Minnesota Counties District 3 Spring Meeting on June 5 at Warroad Riverplace. The event will bring together county commissioners and staff from across the region to discuss key policy issues and regional development plans.
Roseau County has allocated opioid settlement funds to hire a full-time Health Educator at LifeCare Public Health. This position will focus on substance use prevention and community health education, supported by additional grant funding. The initiative reflects the county’s commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through education and outreach.
The funeral service for Jody Bednarski Of Baudette, MN will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 12 PM. A lunch will be held at the Baudette American Legion immediately following the services.
Jody passed away at the age of 66.
A memorial service for Charles J. Brydon of Warroad, MN will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 5:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Charles passed away at the age of 65.
A memorial service for Mable N. Tilton of Warroad, MN will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Warroad Senior Living Center Chapel in Warroad, MN at 1:00PM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date.
Mable passed away at the age of 99.
A Funeral Service for Albert D. Borgen of Badger, MN will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 11:00AM at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Badger, MN. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Badger City Cemetery in Badger, MN.
Albert passed away at the age of 88
TODAY WE WILL LEARN THE NAMES THAT HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR SNOWPLOWS IN TEH CONTEST HELD WITH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THROUGH A PUBLIC VOTE, THEY HAVE LANDED ON THE EIGHT WINNING SUBMISSIONS.
