THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IS AWARDING MORE THAN TWENTY-THREE MILLION DOLLARS IN BORDER-TO-BORDER BROADBAND GRANT FUNDS TO THIRTY PROJECTS AROUND THE STATE, INCLUDING  MORE THAN ONE-POINT-ONE MILLION TO WIKSTROM TELEPHONE COMPANY FOR A  ‘LAST MILE’  PROJECT TO UPGRADE MORE THAN THREE HUNDRED UN-SERVED AREAS IN ROSEAU,   LAKE OF THE WOODS,  KITTSON, MARSHALL AND PENNINGTON COUNTIES.

THE LOCAL MATCH IS  ONE-POINT –FOUR MILLION DOLLARS.

 

THE   70TH  ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROSS COMMUNITY RINK WILL BE CELEBRATED WITH A  THREE-ON-THREE TOURNAMENT SATURDAY.

WITH A SATELLITE WORKSHOP LOCATION AT THE  D.N.R.’S WARROAD OFFICE.

BARB KELLER,  THE AGENCY’S  BIG GAME PROGRAM LEADER,  SAYS THE  D.N.R. IS SEEKING BROADER INPUT.

NEXT WEEK’S WORKSHOP WILL IDENTIFY PRIORITIES;  A SECOND WORKSHOP,  ON THE  27TH OF FEBRUARY,  WILL CREATE RECOMMENDATIONS.

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU  “SHOULD END 2019 IN THE BLACK”.    COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON TOLD THE CITY COUNCIL EARLIER THIS MONTH THAT THE CITY HAD ABOUT EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS IN CASH RESERVES AT THE END OF THE YEAR.

 

A  COW/CALF DAYS SEMINAR TOUR STOPS AT GENE’S IN ROSEAU TOMORROW EVENING.    ERIC MOUSEL,  WITH THE UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA BEEF TEAM,  SAYS TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH ARE THE DRIVING FORCES FOR BEEF PRODUCERS;  THAT   “OLD SCHOOL”  METHODS ARE DISAPPEARING.

MOUSEL SAYS THERE HAS BEEN A GENETICS RESEARCH BOOM IN THE BEEF INDUSTRY OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY’S  GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN  2018 WAS A BILLION DOLLARS,  OR ABOUT THE SAME AS  PENNINGTON COUNTY’S  G-D-P THAT YEAR.

BOTH WERE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN THE  G-D-P IN NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA COUNTIES WHOSE ECONOMIES ARE AG DRIVEN.

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IS THE VALUE OF GOODS AND SERVICES PRODUCED BY A COUNTY,  AND REFLECTS THE VIBRANCE OF A COUNTY’S ECONOMY.
