THE BADGER SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ARRANGING PUBLIC INPUT SESSIONS FOR WANTS, NEEDS, PRIORITIES, STRATEGIES, AND ACTIONS FOR BADGER’S LONG-RANGE PLAN. THE FIRST SESSION WILL BE HELD IN PERSON ON TUESDAY, JUNE 21 AT 7 PM IN THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA. A SECOND SESSION WILL BE OFFERED BY ZOOM ON MONDAY, JUNE 27 BETWEEN 7-8 PM.
THE SPRING WILD TURKEY HARVEST IN MINNESOTA WAS UP NEARLY 2% FROM THAT OF 2021. IN TOTAL 12, 290 BIRDS WERE BAGGED BY HUNTERS, AND IS THE SECOND HIGHEST HARVEST EVER. EARLY SEASON SUCCESS WAS DOWN DUE TO WET, COLD CONDITIONS, BUT NUMBERS REBOUNDED LATE IN THE SEASON.
FUNDRAISING FOR THE TWO MAIN CANDIDATES FOR MINNESOTA GOVERNOR IS PRETTY MUCH NECK AND NECK SO FAR. INCUMBENT TIM WALZ SAID HE HAS RAISED $1.8 MILLION, CHALLENGER SCOTT JENSEN SAYS HE HAS RAISED $1.7 MILLION.
IN NOVEMBER ELECTIONS, ROSEAU COUNTY ATTORNEY KRISTI KJOS WILL RUN OPPOSED. TWO MEMBERS HOLDING SEATS IN WATER AND SOIL WILL RUN UNOPPOSED. COUNTY COMMISSIONER FOR DISTRICT 3 ROGER FALK DID NOT FILE FOR RE-ELECTION; BRENT WALSH, JOE TESAREK, AND LEVI NOVACEK ALL FILED FOR THAT POSITION. ROSEAU COUNTY DISTRICT 5 COMMISSIONER DARRYL WICKLUND WILL RUN UNOPPOSED. MELISSA GUST FILED FOR TREASURER AND JUDGE DONNA DIXON FILED FOR ANOTHER SIX YEAR TERM. ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF STEVE GUST WILL FACE OPPOSITION FROM CURRENT DEPUTY SHERIFF KELLY GUSTAFSON.

A 33-YEAR OLD CROW WING COUNTY WOMAN WAS KILLED WHILE WALKING HER HORSE ON TEH SHOULDER OF A ROAD IN LONG LAKE TOWNSHIP, SOUTHEAST OF BRAINERD. THE WOMAN AND HORSE WERE STRUCK BY A PICKUP TRUCK DRIVEN BY A 44-YEAR OLD MAN FROM BRAINERD. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
MINNESOTA HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE INVESTIGATING CASES OF MEASELS IN TWO PRE-SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN WHO DEVELOPED SYMPTOMS SHORTLY AFTER RETURNING FROM A COUNTRY WHERE THE DISEASE IS COMMON. THE SIBLINGS FROM HENNEPIN COUNTY WERE NOT VACCINATED AGAINST THE DISEASE AND ONE HAS BEEN HOSPITALIZED. OFFICIALS SAY RISK TO THE PUBLIC IS LOW AS THE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN ISOLATED SINCE SYMPTOMS BEGAN.
