THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, YESTERDAY,  APPROVED A CALL FOR BIDS FOR ROAD WORK ON COUNTY ROAD NINE THIS SUMMER;  FROM SKIME NORTH TO THE ROSEAU RIVER. THAT PROJECT WILL INCLUDE ASPHALT SURFACING AND BOX CULVERT INSTALLATION. THE WORK WILL REQUIRE A DETOUR,  WITH THE ROAD OPEN ONLY TO LOCAL TRAFFIC.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ORVIS OLSON OF ROSEAU IS THIS MORNING AT ELEVEN AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.   BURIAL IS AT MALUNG CEMETERY AT A LATER DATE.ORVIS OLSON WAS  84.

OFFICIALS FROM  U.S.  CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION WERE IN ROSEAU LAST WEEK,  TALKING ABOUT THEIR  2017 DECISION TO REDUCE HOURS AT THE ROSEAU PORT OF ENTRY.  MICHAEL FREEMAN,  FROM THE SEATTLE OFFICE,  SAID THE DECISION WAS BASED ON  “RIGHT-SIZING”  U.S. PORTS.  LOCAL LEADERS,  INCLUDING ROSEAU MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI,  SUGGESTED THAT A  DATA-BASED DECISION WAS  SHORT-SIGHTED. AIDES TO SENATORS AMY KLOBUCHAR AND TINA SMITH WERE AT THE MEETING,  AS WAS  FORMER STATE SENATOR LeROY STUMPF,  REPRESENTING CONGRESSMAN COLLIN PETERSON …

THE  MINNESOTA D.N.R.  HELD DEER MANAGEMENT MEETINGS IN ROSEAU AND WARROAD MONDAY; WITH TWO MORE SCHEDULED TONIGHT AT THE THIEF LAKE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, AND AT THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SCHOOL IN BAUDETTE.

SCOTT LAUDENSLAGER,  THE BAUDETTE AREA WILDLIFE SUPERVISOR,  SAYS THESE MEETINGS ARE DESIGNED TO GIVE THE PUBLIC A CHANCE TO INFLUENCE DEER DECISIONS … .THE D.N.R. STARTED PUBLIC DISCUSSIONS ON DEER MANAGEMENT LAST YEAR.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MET YESTERDAY MORNING.  THE COUNTY’S CURRENT YEAR BUDGET PROJECTS A ONE MILLION DOLLAR SHORTFALL. IN 2018, THE COUNTY PROJECTED A  ONE-POINT-SIX MILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT,  YET ENDED THE YEAR WITH A  466 THOUSAND DOLLAR NET GAIN. THE COUNTY HAS PROJECTED DEFICITS EIGHT OF THE PAST NINE YEARS, BUT HAS ACTUALLY SEEN PROFITS IN ALL BUT TWO OF THOSE YEARS.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETS THIS EVENING TO TALK ABOUT A PROPOSED ROSEAU RIVER TRAIL GRANT APPLICATION.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CAROL COLTOM OF STRATHCONA ARE SATURDAY MORNING AT TEN AT GUSTAV ADOLPH LUTHERAN CHURCH IN STRATHCONA.   VISITATION IS FRIDAY EVENING AFTER SIX,  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE, AT COLLINS FUNERAL HOME IN GREENBUSH.CAROL COLTOM WAS   75.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR GUY FISH OF ROOSEVELT IS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THREE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD,  WITH A PUBLIC VISITATION FROM ONE TO THREE P.M.GUY FISH WAS  87.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR WILLIAM CARLSON OF THE NORTHWEST ANGLE IS NEXT TUESDAY  (April 2/ Noon)  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.   MILITARY HONORS ARE BY THE ROSEAU MEMORIAL HONOR GUARD.  BILL CARLSON WAS  82.

THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE IS CONSIDERING A  TELEPHONE  C-P-R  TRAINING STANDARD FOR  9-1-1 DISPATCHERS.LINDSEY BOMGREN,  WHO’S A FITNESS BLOGGER,  SAYS BYSTANDER  C-P-R CAN TRIPLE THE SURVIVAL RATE FOR SOMEONE SUFFERING CARDIAC ARREST;  AND SHE SAYS  9-1-1 OPERATORS SHOULD BE TRAINED ….
