THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF HAS RELEASED THE NAME OF A DECEASED MALE THAT WAS FOUND DURING A CALL TO A POSSIBLE HOUSE FIRE IN STRATHCONA ON NOVEMBER 4. THEY HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 38-YEAR OLD SEDDREX G. GATES OF BRAINERD. THE CASE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

THE FIREARMS DEER SEASON HARVEST FOR THE OPENING WEEKEND IN MINNESOTA WAS UP SIGNIFICANTLY FROM A YEAR AGO. JUST OVER 55,000 DEER WERE TAKEN IN THIS YEAR, COMPARED TO JUST OVER 47,000 LAST YEAR. IN THE NORTHWEST, IT WAS UP 5% FROM A YEAR AGO.

THE POLK COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE LAST WEEK FOUND THAT DEADLY FORCE USED BY POLICE OFFICER NICHOLAS FLADLAND IN THE DEATH OF ANTHONY SCOTT DALE WAS JUSTIFIED. DALE WAS EXHIBITING ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, AND CARRIED A “CAUTION” NOT IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT’S REPORTING SYSTEM AS HE WAS A KNOWN DRUG USER, AN ABUSER, AND HAD MADE SUICIDAL THREATS TO OFFICERS IN THE PAST.
INVESTIGATION OF A SEPARATE DEADLY SHOOTING BY OFFICER FLADLAND IS NOW BEING HANDLED BY CROW WING COUNTY INVESTIGATORS. THAT INVOLVED THE DEATH OF CHRISTOPHER JUNKIN, WHO WAS BEING DISRUPTIVE AT A HOMELESS SHELTER.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES FOR A ROGER TUPPER FROM INTERNATIONAL FALLS, WHO WAS KAYAKING ON THE RAINY RIVER. HE’S BEEN MISSING SINCE NOVEMBER 4TH. INEWZ REPORTS THAT TUPPER’S SON HAS TOLD HIM THAT THEY FOUND A BACKPACK AND PADDLE NEAR THE SITE THAT TUPPER LAUNCHED.

NOW IS THE TIME TO CONTACT THE ROSEAU COUNTY ASSESSOR’S OFFICE IF YOU OWN AND OCCUPY A RESIDENCE THAT YOU DID NOT ON JANUARY 2ND OF THIS YEAR TO APPLY FOR A HOMESTEAD CREDIT. THIS WOULD ALSO APPLY IF YOU OCCUPY A RESIDENCE OWNED BY A RELATIVE. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31. THERE IS SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY AS WELL, IF THE LAND IS BEING FARMED, BUT YOU DO NOT RESIDE ON THAT PROPERTY.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WILL BE HOLDING A HOLIDAY LIGHTNING CONTEST AGAIN THIS YEAR. BOTH RESIDENCES AND BUSINESSES CAN BE ENTERED AND WOULD BE JUDGED IN SEPARATE CATEGORIES. THERE WILL BE PRIZES OF $100, $75, AND $50 FOR FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD. JUDGING WILL BE DURING THE 2ND WEEK OF DECEMBER. CALL THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE TO HAVE YOUR ADDRESS REGISTERED.
