THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, ON MONDAY, UPHELD A DANGEROUS DOG DESIGNATION FOR AN ANIMAL INVOLVED IN AN OCTOBER 15TH INCIDENT AT WESTSIDE TRAILER COURT – WHERE A MAN WAS BITTEN SEVERAL TIMES IN WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS AN UN-PROVOKED ATTACK. THERE WERE TWO DOGS INVOLVED; THE OWNER OF ONE OF THE DOGS HAS AGREED TO HAVE HIS DOG DESTROYED. THE OWNER OF THE SECOND HAS UNTIL DECEMBER 6TH TO COMPLY WITH THE CITY’S DANGEROUS DOG ORDINANCE.
THE CITY COUNCIL ALSO TALKED AGAIN ABOUT NEXT YEAR’S LEVY AND BUDGET. THE CITY’S PRELIMINARY BUDGET PROJECTED AN APPROXIMATE SIX HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLAR DEFICIT IN 2022, BUT THAT BEEN REDUCED TO ABOUT TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE CURRENT YEAR’S BUDGET PROJECTS AN APPROXIMATE THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR DEFICIT.
MORE THAN 44,000 5-11 YEAR OLDS IN MINNESOTA HAVE RECEIVED THEIR FIRST COVID-19 VACCINATION SHOT, WITH OVER 4,000 OF THOSE BEING DONE AT SCHOOL-HOSTED VACCINE CLINICS. THE STATE HAS PARTNERED WITH MORE THAN 30 SCHOOLS TO THIS POINT, OFFERING THOSE CLINICS AS THE MOST CONVENIENT WAY TO GET VACCINATED, FOR FAMILIES WHO WISH TO DO SO.
THE NORTHERN LIGHTS CONCERT SERIES BOARD MEMBERS WILL MEET SOON TO BEGIN SELECTING CONCERTS FOR THE 2022-23 SEASON. THE 2018-2019 SEASON WAS CUT SHORT BY THE PANDEMIC, AND THEY HAVE TWO CONCERTS IN APRIL AND MAY OF NEXT YEAR TO MAKE UP FOR THE MISSED SECOND HALF OF THAT SEASON.
GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED A PLAN FOR SPENDING OF $36 MILLION IN AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN FUNDS. A PORTION OF THAT WILL LOOK TO ASSIST IN STAFFING SHORTAGES AND OVER CROWDING AT EMERGENCY ROOMS, A LARGE CHUNK SET ASIDE FOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO AN ESTIMATED 6,000 RESIDENTS, AND OTHER THINGS. IN TOTAL, THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN IS PROVIDING $8.5 BILLION TO MINNESOTA.
A THREAT OF GUN VIOLENCE, WRITTEN ON THE WALL AT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN GRAND FORKS HAS BEEN SNUFFED OUT. THE MESSAGE WAS DISCOVERED YESTERDAY, AND NOTED TODAY AS THE DATE ACT WOULD TAKE PLACE. THE AUTHOR OF THE MESSAGE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED, AND OFFICIALS FEEL THERE IS NO LONGER LEGITIMATE DANGER.
