THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD HAD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON NOVEMBER 14 TO CERTIFY THE ELECTION RESULTS WHERE THOR DIDRICKSON, NEAL VATNSDAL AND DAVID SIMMONS RECEIVED THE MOST VOTES TO TAKE THE THREE SEATS THAT WERE UP FOR GRABS.

THE SCHOOL BOARD ALSO MET EARLIER THIS WEEK. SOME POINTS FROM THEIR AGENDA INCLUDED DISCUSSION OF THE INTERVIEWS FOR A K-12 DEAN OF STUDNETS. A MOTION WAS MADE TO HIRE WADE HINSON FOR THAT POSITION.
A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER GEORGE ZIEGLER, EFFECTIVE THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WAS ALSO MADE.
THEY RECOGNIZED SOREN OLESON AS THE ROSEAU TEACHERS ASSOCIATION TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

EIGHT MINNESOTA RETAILERS HAVE BEEN NAMED 2025 MINNESOTA GROWN RETAILERS OF THE YEAR BY THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AG’S MINNESOTA GROWN PROGRAM. THIS SHOWS THEY DEMONSTRATE EXCELLENCE IN LOCALLY GROWN AND PRODUCED PRODUCTS. HUGO’S FAMILY MARKETPLACE IN THIEF RIVER FALLS WAS THE NORTHWEST REGION WINNER, WHILE A SUPER ONE FOODS LOCATION IN DULUTH WAS A WINNER AS WELL.

ROUGHLY TWO-THIRDS OF THOSE WHO APPLIED FOR A SOCIAL EQUITY CANNABIS LICENSE ARE NOW BEING TOLD THEY HAVE BEEN DENIED. THERE WAS ABOUT 1800 OF THEM, AND JUST OVER 600 ARE EXPECTED TO ADVANCE INTO A LOTTERY THAT IS TO BE HELD THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 2. THERE ARE 280 SUCH LICENSES AVAILABLE. MOST OF THE DENIALS WERE FOR A MISTAKES IN THE APPLICATION, OR IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT APPLICATIONS WERE BEING DUPLICATED, OR THAT THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO DISGUISE THE TRUE PARTY OF INTEREST.

FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES, THE FAFSA FORM, THE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID IS NOW ACCESSIBLE IN A BETA STAGE, AND WILL OFFICIALLY GET LAUNCHED ON DECEMBER 1. LAST YEAR’S FAFSA ONLINE FORM WAS PLAGUED WITH BUGS AND ROLLOUT ISSUES. THEY ARE HOPING TO USE THIS ROUGHLY TWO WEEKS TO DISCOVER ANY ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE.

NOVEMBER 29 WILL BE ONE OF THE FREE STATE PARK DAYS FROM THE MINNESOTA DNR. ON THAT DATE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO ENTER ALL MINNESOTA STATE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL AREAS WITHOUT A PERMIT.

THERE WILL BE TURKEY BINGO HELD AT THE SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ROSEAU THIS SUNDAY EVENING AT 6:00. THEY’LL PLAY 25 GAMES, SPONSORED BY THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS.

A celebration of Life for Nathan R. Smith will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN.
Nathan passed away November 8, 2024 at the age of 41.

A Funeral Service for Joanne M. Roseen of Roseau, MN will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00AM at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 7PM. Interment will take place at Malung Cemetery.
Joanne passed away at the age of 81.

A Funeral Service for Doris Wicklund, of Greenbush, will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery in Greenbush, MN.
SHE PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 14 AT THE AGE OF 98.

THE POLK COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE LAST WEEK FOUND THAT DEADLY FORCE USED BY POLICE OFFICER NICHOLAS FLADLAND IN THE DEATH OF ANTHONY SCOTT DALE WAS JUSTIFIED. DALE WAS EXHIBITING ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, AND CARRIED A “CAUTION” NOT IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT’S REPORTING SYSTEM AS HE WAS A KNOWN DRUG USER, AN ABUSER, AND HAD MADE SUICIDAL THREATS TO OFFICERS IN THE PAST.
INVESTIGATION OF A SEPARATE DEADLY SHOOTING BY OFFICER FLADLAND IS NOW BEING HANDLED BY CROW WING COUNTY INVESTIGATORS. THAT INVOLVED THE DEATH OF CHRISTOPHER JUNKIN, WHO WAS BEING DISRUPTIVE AT A HOMELESS SHELTER.
