NINE MINNESOTA SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN NAMED 2023 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS, AND ONE OF THOSE IS STEPHEN-ARGYLE ELEMENTARY. THE US SECRETARY OF EDUCATION SAYS THOSE SCHOOLS “RAISE THE BAR IN EDUCATION”. IT’S BASED ON THEIR OVERALL ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OR PROGRESS IN CLOSING ACHIEVEMENT GAPS.
THE MINNESOTA DNR IS TAKING PUBLIC COMMENT ON THE REHABILITATION OF THE LAKE BRONSON DAM. A DNR NEWS RELEASE SAYS THE CURRENT DAM IS IN POOR CONDITION. THE PROJECT IS TO INCLUDE THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE 85-YEAR OLD CONCRETE SPILLWAY AND THE ASSOCIATED KITTSON COUNTY HIGHWAY 28 BRIDGE.
A PEQUOT LAKES COUPLE IS FACING FELONY TAX CHARGES, AFTER ALLEGEDLY FILING FALSE OR FRAUDULENT INCOME TAX RETURNS. SHANNON MARIE STEELE AND RUSSEL CLAIR STEELE ARE FACING FIVE COUNTS FOR TAXES FILED IN 2017 THROUGH 2021. THE REPORT SAYS THAT THE COUPLE HAD TAKEN WITHDRAWALS FROM BANK ACCOUNTS OF A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT THEY OWNED, USE IT FOR PERSONAL EXPENSES, AND DID NOT INCLUDE THOSE WITHDRAWALS AS INCOME.
AUTHORITIES ARE LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IN A FATAL HIT AND RUN THAT KILLED A 61 YEAR OLD DEER RIVER MAN. HE WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE OF HIGHWAY 6 ON SUNDAY. THEY BELIEVE IT HAPPENED IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS DURING DENSE FOG.
A 24TH ANNUAL ST JUDE TRAIL AND WAGON RIDE IS HAPPENING THIS SATURDAY AT BEMIS HILL CAMPGROUND. REGISTRATION IS AT 8 AM WITH THE RIDE BEGINNING AT 10:00. THERE IS ALSO A SILENT AUCTION AND CATERED DINNER IN THE AFTERNOON.
A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR HENRY C. BOUCHA WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 AT 2 PM AT GARDENS ARENA IN WARROAD. VISITATION WILL BE AN HOUR PRIOR AND INTERMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT RIVERSIDE CEMETERY. HENRY PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 72.
