THE PANEL THAT IS WORKING TO DESIGN A NEW STATE FLAG FOR MINNESOTA HAS APPOINTED IT’S LEADERS AND OUTLINED A WORK SCHEDULE. THEY WILL MEET WEEKLY WITH THE HOPES OF MEETING A JANUARY 1 DEADLINE, ALTHOUGH IF THEY NEED MORE TIME, THEY COULD FILE AN EXTENSION. THE STATE LAW SAYS THAT THE FLAG WOULD NOT BE ADOPTED UNTIL MAY 11 ANYWAY.
TWO MINNESOTA TEENS DROWN IN A WISCONSIN LAKE OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. THE BODIES OF GRACE RHINE AND KYREE SCHAW WERE DISCOVERED IN 15-20 FEET OF WATER IN LIPSETT LAKE IN THE TOWN OF RUSK. OFFICIALS BELIEVE THAT HIGH WINDS AND ROUGH WATER CONDITIONS MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE DROWNING. BOTH VICTIMS WERE FROM BLAINE.
ST CLOUD SCHOOLS HAVE BECOME THE LATEST TO MAKE HEADLINES FOR REMOVING THEIR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AMID CONFUSION AND CONCERN OVER THE WORDING OF A NEW LAW THAT ATTEMPTS TO OUTLINE WHAT ACTIONS THOSE OFFICERS ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE AND IN WHAT SITUATIONS THEY SHOULD TAKE THEM. GOVERNOR WALZ SAID YESTERDAY HE WANTS TO AVOID CALLING A SPECIAL SESSION TO REWRITE THE LAW, BUT IS OPEN TO THE IDEA. HE IS HOPING THINGS CAN BE CLARIFIED BY WORKING WITH LOCAL LEADERS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Morton “Mort” Nesmith age 81, of Baudette, MN passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Combined services for the father and son will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11:00AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
A mass of Christian burial for Raymond Efta will be held on Monday (1:30 pm) at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, starting at 2:00 with a 4:00 prayer service, with a Rosary to follow. Visitation is also one hour prior on Monday. Ray Efta passed away August 30.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be held at Nannestad Cemetery in Badger, MN.

Richard passed away at the age of 84.
A Funeral Service for Mary A. Corneliusen of Warroad, MN will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN at 6:00PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date.
Mary passed at the age of 66.
