A funeral service for Luella Cass will be held on Saturday,  December 28, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad, MN  at 10:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Spruce Cemetery, Roseau, MN.   Visitation will be held at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Warroad on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7pm.

Luella Alma Cass gained her wings and went to Heaven on December 22, 2024 at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN with surrounded by her loving family and wrapped in their arms.

Luella was born on September 29, 1952 in Roseau, MN to Agnes and Albin Olson. She grew up in Salol, MN. She attended grade school in Salol, MN and she was a cheerleader for the Salol Blackhawks hockey team. She went to high school in Roseau, MN and graduated in 1970. In her high school years she worked at Nelson’s Café in Roseau and enjoyed spending time with her sister Kristie and cousins Linda and Roxanne.

Luella started work at Marvin Windows in 1971. She met the love of her life, James Jay Cass in 1972. The two of them were married on March 31, 1973. They didn’t waste any time! They raised 3 beautiful children together. In 1976 Luella decided to stay home and raise her children and do daycare. The neighborhood kids called her “The Kool-Aid Mom” because you could always go to her house for Kool-Aid and a snack.

As her kids grew up, she went on to work at the Warroad Care Center as a dietary aide and Conoco Shop and Go. She went back to Marvin Windows in 1994 where she worked for 20 years before retiring in 2014. She has enjoyed 10 years of retirement traveling with her husband on the road in the summertime and attending their grandkids and great-grandkids activities. Luella loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Luella was a friend to many! She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed her lunch dates with her friends. She was an avid bingo player and she had a special seat at the keno machine.

Luella is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, James Jay Cass, their children Tammy Dejno (Eddie Castle) of Warroad, MN, Sheri (Dean) Rourk of Warroad, MN and Ryan Cass of Hawley, MN. Her sister Kristie Picklyk of Middlebro, MB. Five grandchildren, Haley (Jake) Gabrick of Warroad, MN, Kyle (Elizabeth) Rourk of Warroad, MN, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Dejno of Warroad, MN, Alex Rourk of St Cloud, MN, and Ella Rourk of St Cloud, MN. Nine great-grandchildren, Rylen, Cali Ray, Aubrey, Hudson, Payten, Everly, Olivia, Colt, and Hadleigh.

Luella is preceded in death by her parents  Albin and Agnes Olson, grandparents, father-in-law Charles Cass, mother-in-law Erna Cass, favorite brother-in-law Jerry Cass and his wife Mary VanWinkle, brother-in-law Doug Peterson, precious grandson Austin Dejno, and many aunts and uncles.
