Matthew Jon Aker, 41, of Warroad, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on March 24, 2025 at Abbott Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis.

Matthew was born on July 28, 1983, in Roseau, MN, to Terry and Bobbi (Norquist) Aker. From an early age, he was known for his big heart, unwavering loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He loved with his whole body and soul, always putting those he cared about first.

He graduated from Warroad High School in 2002 and soon after began his career at Christian Brothers Hockey Sticks, where he met his lifelong friend and eventual father-in-law, Rick Pomplun. Matthew later transitioned from making hockey sticks to beekeeping, joining Wilmer Farms, a place that quickly became like family to him. His final place of work was with the United States Postal Service, where he took great pride in delivering mail on his route, building connections with the community he loved.

Matthew was lucky enough to find the love of his life, his beloved wife, Kapital, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a devoted and loving father to his children, Lauren(13), Jak(5), and Audie(2), always supporting and guiding them with warmth and wisdom. Matthew’s greatest joy in life was being a father, and his love for his children was boundless. He embraced every moment with them, always making sure they knew they were deeply loved and supported. He cherished teaching Lauren to drive on the back roads, guiding her with patience and encouragement, turning each lesson into an adventure filled with laughter and love. Jak was his junior mechanic, always by his side in the garage, learning from his dad and sharing in his passion for fixing things. And little Audie, his shadow, never wanted to be anywhere but right by her Daddy’s side, soaking up every moment they had together. But Matthew’s love extended beyond just his own children. To him, family wasn’t just about blood—it was about the bonds built through love and care. Carsen, “the neighbor kid”, quickly became part of the family and a son to Matthew. He took Carsen under his wing, guiding him, teaching him, and treating him as one of his own, showing the kind of love and kindness that defined his character.

Matthew took pride in every milestone, from the smallest victories to the biggest achievements. He led by example, teaching his children the values of hard work, kindness, and loyalty. His love and devotion to them will forever be a guiding light in their lives. He was a rock when it came to his friendships—always dependable, always there when needed, and always bringing light to those around him. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him. An avid outdoorsman, Matthew found joy in snowmobiling, riding three-wheeler, hunting, fishing, mowing the lawn and spending time in his garage fixing small engines. His passion for working with his hands was matched only by the happiness he found in sharing those moments with the people he loved.

Matthew is survived by his beloved wife, Kapital; their children, Lauren, Jak, and Audie; his parents, Terry and Bobbi Aker of Warroad; his sister, Patti (Jeff) Johnson of Warroad; his nieces and nephews, William, Sophie, Sullivan, and Stella (Jeff and Patti), Taylor Aker (Kevin Aker), father-in-law Rick Pomplun of Warroad; mother-in-law Alison Pomplun of Warroad; sister-in-law Aspen Pomplun of Salol; nieces and nephews, Khaleesi Boruch, Teagan Boruch, Elizabeth Garcia, and Elaina Garcia (Aspen Pomplun); several  aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Matthew was preceded in death by his son, Dayne Aker; brother, Kevin Aker of Roosevelt; Grandparents, Bill and Fran Aker of Warroad and Lester and Pat Norquist of Warroad.

To commemorate Matthew’s journey and to celebrate the love he spread, a visitation will be held on Monday, March 31st at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service beginning at 7PM.
