PRIMARY ELECTION DAY IS TODAY IN MINNESOTA. SECRETARY OF STATE STEVE SIMON SAYS THERE WAS A SURGE IN DEMAND FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTS THIS YEAR;  AND SIMON SAYS SAFEGUARDS WERE ADDED FOR  IN-PERSON VOTING. IN ROSEAU COUNTY,  IN-PERSON VOTING IS  IN THE CITIES OF ROSEAU,  WARROAD AND GREENBUSH;  IN MORANVILLE TOWNSHIP;  AND AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE.

FOR LOCAL VOTERS,  THE MOST INTEREST WILL BE FOCUSSED ON A DISTRICT 1A REPUBLICAN SEAT BEING VACATED BY THE RETIREMENT OF ROSEAU’S DAN FABIAN. BRIAN MEEHAN OF ROSEAU,  DAVID LION OF THIEF RIVER FALLS AND JOHN BURKEL OF BADGER ARE VYING FOR A SPOT ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT; BURKEL IS THE ENDORSED CANDIDATE.

THE MINNESOTA RURAL BROADBAND COALITION HAS LAUNCHED A STATEWIDE SPEED TEST OF INTERNET SERVICE. VINCE ROBINSON,  THE CHAIR OF THAT COALITION,  SAYS A LACK OF BROADBAND IN RURAL MINNESOTA HAMPERS TELEWORK,  TELEHEALTH AND DISTANCE LEARNING;  AND THAT THE GOAL IS TO FIND OUT WHERE BROADBAND SERVICE IS AVAILABLE AND AT WHAT SPEEDS. A PILOT PROGRAM IS UNDERWAY IN ST LOUIS,  KOOCHICHING AND ITASCA COUNTIES.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY COURT  JURY TRIAL PREPAREDNESS PLAN HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE STATE OF MINNESOTA.

A DRIVE-BY LUMINARY LINEUP IS THURSDAY EVENING AT ROSEAU’S RIVERVIEW PARK. IT’S SPONSORED BY RELAY FOR LIFE OF ROSEAU COUNTY,  AND IS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THURSDAY’S GAZEBO CONCERT FEATURING THE OVERTONES.

THE ROSEAU AND WARROAD SCHOOLS ARE LOOKING FOR TUTORS IN MATH AND READING FOR THIS FALL. THOSE MINNESOTA READING AND MATH CORPS TUTORS RECEIVE A SMALL STIPEND AND CAN EARN MONEY FOR STUDENT LOANS AND TUITION. CAROLYN GRIFFIN IS A LEAD PROGRAM MANAGER FOR READING AND MATH,  INC.

A PUBLIC GRAVESIDE SERVICE,  FOLLOWING MINNESOTA STATE GUIDELINES FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING,  FOR IRENE  SCHULTZ  OF ROSEAU IS THIS MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT ST MARY’S CATHOLIC CEMETERY IN BADGER. THE FAMILY WILL HAVE A PRIVATE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL. IRENE  SCHULTZ  WAS  90.

SUSAN  WOJCIECHOWSKI OF WARROAD PASSED AWAY LAST THURSDAY,  AT AGE   62.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, YESTERDAY,  UNANIMOUSLY ACCEPTED IT’S PLANNING COMMISSION’S RECOMMENDATION FOR A CONDITIONAL USE APPROVAL OF A VETERINARY CLINIC ON MAIN AVENUE.    PLANNING COMMISSION CHAIR DENNIS SABOURIN CALLED THE CLINIC  “GREAT FOR THE COMMUNITY”.

ROSEAU  COUNTY  HAS  THREE   STATE  4H  AMBASSADORS,  AS HOPE GRAFSTROM HAS JOINED  NOLAN HANSON AND JOHN NOVACEK IN THAT ROLE.

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub  SAYS MINNESOTA IS THE SECOND BEST STATE TO HAVE A BABY,  AFTER MASSACHUSETTS. VERMONT AND NORTH DAKOTA WERE  3RD AND 4TH,  BASED ON MEASURES LIKE COST,  HEALTH CARE ACCESSIBILITY AND PEDIATRICIANS PER CAPITA. AT  THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST  WERE ALABAMA,  SOUTH CAROLINA AND MISSISSIPPI.
