THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST NIGHT,  VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO UPHOLD A DANGEROUS DOG DESIGNATION; AND GAVE THE DOG’S OWNER,  JOSHUA DAHLEN OF ROSEAU,  UNTIL NEXT MONDAY TO MEET ORDINANCE REQUIREMENTS TO KEEP THE DOG. THE GREAT DANE/MASTIFF ATTACKED AND KILLED ANOTHER DOG IN MID-JULY ON THE BIKE PATH NEAR THE ROSEAU ELEVATOR;  AND IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD AT THE ROSEAU DOG POUND.

CURRENT ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS JANE EVANS AND PAT NOVACEK HAVE FILED FOR RE-ELECTION IN NOVEMBER. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FILINGS FOR THE MAYOR’S POSITION BEING VACATED BY THE RETIREMENT OF JEFF PELOWSKI AT THE END OF THE YEAR.

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub  SAYS MINNESOTA IS THE SECOND BEST STATE IN THE NATION FOR HEALTH CARE,  AFTER MASSACHUSETTS.THAT’S BASED ON MEASURES LIKE AVERAGE MONTHLY INSURANCE PREMIUMS AND PHYSICIANS PER CAPITA. NORTH DAKOTA WAS FIFTH ON THE LIST,  WHILE GEORGIA,  LOUISIANA AND ALABAMA WERE AT THE BOTTOM.

A ROSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETS TOMORROW TO BEGIN PLANNING FOR AN  IN-PERSON RETURN TO SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER. MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ ANNOUNCED  A  SAFE LEARNING PLAN LAST WEEK,  WHICH LETS LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS DECIDE HOW THEY WILL REOPEN  BASED ON LOCAL COVID CONDITIONS. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR PEGGY FLANAGAN SAYS PARENTS HAVE HEALTH CONCERNS,  BUT THAT RESEARCH SHOWS KIDS LEARN BEST IN CLASSROOMS. THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST WEEK, HEARD THAT THE GOVERNOR’S PLAN OFFERS NO  CLEAR GUIDANCE FOR HEALTH COMPROMISED STAFF.

7TH  DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN  COLLIN PETERSON HAS INTRODUCED A BILL TO PROVIDE RELIEF FOR SEASONAL BUSINESSES AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE, WHERE THE ONLY ACCESS TO THE THAT TOURIST AREA  IS BY BOAT FROM WARROAD. JOE HENRY,  THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR LAKE OF THE WOODS TOURISM,  SAYS ONE OPTION MIGHT BE ALLOWING TRAVEL FROM ROSEAU AND WARROAD DIRECTLY TO THE ANGLE.

ROSEAU COUNTY AUDITOR/RECORDER MARTIE MONSRUD HAS A PUBLIC ACCURACY TEST OF ELECTION EQUIPMENT TO BE USED IN NEXT WEEK’S PRIMARY ELECTION  THURSDAY  (1 PM)  AT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED  HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING REPAIRS AT THE ROSEAU HIGHWAY SHOP.   THE LOW QUOTE FOR THAT WORK WAS  FORTY-ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

THE ROSEAU CIVIC AND COMMERCE ASSOCIATION’S  ANNUAL CRAZY DAY EVENT IS THURSDAY. IT’S BEEN SHORTENED TO ONE DAY IN PART DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS.

ROSEAU COUNTY  4H  HAS BEEN DISRUPTED THIS SUMMER BY COVID-19,  ALTHOUGH THERE WAS VIRTUAL JUDGING OF PROJECTS. SANDI WEILAND SAYS THEY WILL MOVE AHEAD WITH THE START OF THE  4H YEAR  THIS FALL,  PER UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION GUIDELINES.

ROSEAU COUNTY’S RESPONSE RATE FOR THE  2020 CENSUS IS BEHIND THE NATIONAL RATE SIXTY PERCENT OF ROSEAU COUNTY RESIDENTS HAVE RESPONDED, COMPARED WITH  SIXTY-THREE PERCENT NATIONALLY. ACROSS MINNESOTA,  SEVENTY-TWO PERCENT OF RESIDENTS HAVE RESPONDED TO THE CENSUS. CENSUS NUMBERS DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF FEDERAL MONEY DISTRIBUTED TO STATES,  COUNTIES AND CITIES.
