CURRENT ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS JANE EVANS AND PAT NOVACEK WILL RUN UNOPPOSED IN NOVEMBER, AS THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE TO FILE FOR TWO SEATS; BUT ROSEAU’S NEXT MAYOR WILL BE A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE, AS NOBODY FILED FOR A SEAT CURRENTLY HELD BY JEFF PELOWSKI. PELOWSKI SAID EARLIER THIS SUMMER HE WOULD NOT BE SEEKING A TWELFTH TERM.
THREE INCUMBENT ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS (MICKY HULST, THOR DIDRIKSON AND VONDA DANIELSON) WILL BE JOINED ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT BY CHALLENGER JOHN STARWAY.
JOHN BURKEL OF BADGER WAS A RUNAWAY WINNER OF THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY FOR THE MINNESOTA HOUSE DISTRICT 1A SEAT BEING VACATED BY THE RETIREMENT OF ROSEAU’S DAN FABIAN. BURKEL RECEIVED 91% OF THE VOTE TO EASILY DEFEAT DOCTOR DAVID LION OF THIEF RIVER FALLS AND BRIAN MEEHAN OF ROSEAU. BURKEL FACES DFL’ER CONNIE LINDSTROM OF HALLOCK IN NOVEMBER.
IN THE 7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT REPUBLICAN PRIMARY, MICHELLE FISCHBACH HAD 59% OF THE VOTE TO FAR OUT-DISTANCE DAVE HUGHES OF KARLSTAD (22%) AND NOEL COLLIS (15%). FISCHBACH IS CHALLENGING LONGTIME DFL CONGRESSMAN COLLIN PETERSON IN NOVEMBER. PETERSON ALSO HAD A PRIMARY, GETTING 76% OF THE DFL VOTE IN A RACE WITH ALYCIA GRUENHAGEN (17%) AND STEPHEN EMERY (8%).
THERE WERE PRIMARY ELECTIONS FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER SEATS IN TWO AREA COUNTIES. IN KITTSON COUNTY, NATHAN KRAULIK AND INCUMBENT COREY WIKSTROM WILL BE ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT. KRAULIK HAD 48% OF THE VOTES, AND WIKSTROM 41%. BRIAN ANDERSON WAS THE OTHER CANDIDATE. IN PENNINGTON COUNTY, JULIE BOLDUC AND DAVE SORENSON WILL FACE OFF IN NOVEMBER FOR A SEAT BEING VACATED BY THE RETIREMENT OF CODY HEMPEL. BOLDUC HAD 55 VOTES, SORENSON 53 VOTES, AND DON SOLLOM 47 VOTES.
THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, YESTERDAY, APPOINTED HEIDI LIEN OF WARROAD TO THE COUNTY EXTENSION COMMITTEE.
