THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD, YESTERDAY, DEFEATED A PROPOSAL FOR DISTANCE LEARNING EVERY FRIDAY (STARTING OCTOBER 23RD AND GOING THROUGH AT LEAST THE FIRST SEMESTER) FOR GRADES K-12. JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS ARE DISTANCE LEARNING NOW ON FRIDAYS, BUT ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ARE IN-PERSON ON THE LAST DAY OF THE WEEK. THE VOTE WAS 3-3, MEANING THE MOTION FAILED. SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME SAID “IN PERSON LEARNING IS THE BEST POSSIBLE SCENARIO” BUT THE “CURRENT MODEL AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL IS NOT SUSTAINABLE” DUE TO TEACHER AND STAFF STRESS LEVELS. THE INTENT OF THE PROPOSAL WAS TO GIVE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS A DAY TO PREPARE FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK.
ROSEAU MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI DID NOT FILE FOR RE-ELECTION IN JULY, AND NOBODY ELSE DID EITHER, LEAVING THAT SPACE ON THE BALLOT OPEN FOR A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE; AND CURRENT REPUBLICAN STATE REPRESENTATIVE DAN FABIAN HAS ANNOUNCED HE WILL SEEK THE MAYOR’S CHAIR AS A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. JEFF PELOWSKI IS IN HIS 22ND YEAR AS MAYOR OF ROSEAU.
