AFTER ADDING TEN NEW CONFIRMED  COVID-19  CASES OVER THE SPAN OF A WEEK, ROSEAU COUNTY’S  CASE COUNT HAS REMAINED STEADY  (AT  74)  SINCE SUNDAY. THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPORTED  502 NEW CASES STATEWIDE YESTERDAY,  AND SIX MORE CORONAVIRUS DEATHS. THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN SEVENTY-SIX THOUSAND COVID CASES IN MINNESOTA SINCE MID-MARCH.

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub  SAYS NORTH DAKOTA IS THE HARDEST WORKING STATE IN AMERICA,  FOLLOWED BY ALASKA AND WYOMING; AND THAT MINNESOTA IS  18TH. THAT’S BASED ON METRICS LIKE AVERAGE WORKWEEK HOURS,  ANNUAL VOLUNTEER HOURS PER RESIDENT  AND THE SHARE OF WORKERS WITH MULTIPLE JOBS. WEST VIRGINIA,  NEW MEXICO AND RHODE ISLAND WERE THE LEAST HARD WORKING STATES ACCORDING TO THE WEBSITE.

ON A ROSEAU COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COVID STAKEHOLDERS MEETING THIS WEEK,  WARROAD SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT SHAWN YATES SAID HIS DISTRICT IS  “HOPING THE COMMUNITY TAKES COVID SERIOUSLY TO ALLOW FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING CONSISTENCY”. ROSEAU COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE PLANNING FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING STARTING TUESDAY,  BUT THAT PLAN IS DEPENDENT ON THE NUMBER OF CORONAVIRUS CASES PER TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE IN THE COUNTY.

A DOZEN  U.S.  MAYORS HAVE STARTED A MOVEMENT FOR GUARANTEED GOVERNMENT PAYMENTS TO LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS. ONE OF THOSE MAYORS IS ST PAUL’S  MELVIN CARTER,  WHO SAYS IT IS DIFFICULT FOR SOME PEOPLE TO BE PART OF A CONSUMER-DRIVEN ECONOMY CARTER SAYS HE WOULD LIKE TO IDENTIFY 135 LOW-INCOME FAMILIES IN ST PAUL,  WHO WOULD GET FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH OVER EIGHTEEN MONTHS. THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,  LAST WEEK,   HOSTED VIRTUAL EVENTS ON A  2023 HIGHWAY ELEVEN RE-CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN THE CITY OF WARROAD. JEFF ERICKSON IS THE PROJECT MANAGER FOR A JOB THAT WILL RE-BUILD HIGHWAY ELEVEN FROM COUNTY ROAD FIVE TO HIGHWAY 313 IN WARROAD. ERICKSON SAYS THE WORK WILL ALSO INVOLVE THE HIGHWAY BRIDGE OVER THE WARROAD RIVER.

A ROSEAU COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON  (1-4 PM)  AT THE WARROAD CITY SHOP. OTHER HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS ARE NEXT WEEK  (Thursday & Friday)  IN ROSEAU,  BADGER AND GREENBUSH.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR HAROLD  “SAM”  EVANS OF ROSEAU ARE FRIDAY MORNING AT TEN AT MOE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION IS TOMORROW EVENING  (5-7 PM)  WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   ALL SERVICES FOLLOW MINNESOTA COVID-19 GUIDELINES. SAM EVANS WAS  66.
