NORMA M. KARLSEN

09/12/2019

Loving mother and grandma passed away peacefully on August 17th at the age of 98.  Norma was born on November 21, 1920 to John and Hilda Eklund at the home of her grandparents, the Carl Malmskog’s in Badger, Minnesota.  She attended and graduated from high school in Badger in 1934.

On September 16th, 1945 she married Ralph Karlsen at Nannestad Lutheran Church south of Badger.  They lived on the Karlsen family farm near Swift for about 40 years before moving into a new home which they built at the Warroad Estates in 1989.

Norma worked at the Warroad Care Center for many years; first as a nurses aid and then as an LPN.  Care giving was her passion and she was good at it.  People were well cared for under her watch.  She loved gardening, playing cards, fishing, visiting family and friends, and especially treasured time with her family.

She resided at the Warroad Senior Living Center for 9 years and then moved to Minneapolis to be nearer to her family in April of 2019.

Norma is survived by her children, Ralph Jr. (Jamie) and Marleen (Rod) Hauschulz; brothers Richard (Jeanette) and Howard; grandchildren, Raphael Cooley, Andrew Karlsen, Dean Karlsen, Dan Hauschulz, Lisa St.Aubin and Steven Hauschulz; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Sr, her parents, and siblings; John Jr, Betty, Margaret and Jeanette.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Grace Hospice (1015 4th Ave N, Suite 206, Minneapolis MN 55405).

A service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2 PM.  Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Warroad, MN.
