Shirley Ann (Pearson) Horner of Warroad, passed away at the Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad, MN on February 23, 2023 at the age of 91.

Shirley was born on September 7, 1931 in the Warroad Hospital to Carl and Dorothy (Fritzinger) Pearson. Shirley grew up on her parent’s farm in Swift, MN where she went to the country school, then graduated from Warroad High School in 1949.

Shirley married Doran Horner on October 7, 1950 and they had two sons, Glenn and Michael.

In addition to being a homemaker, helping on the farm and raising 2 boys, she was proud to be working outside of the home. Her first job was at Northwestern Bell in Warroad at the time they still asked “Number Please?” After the telephone office closed, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for a couple of small businesses. From there, she went to work at Marvin Windows as a switchboard operator until she retired in 1991.

After her retirement, Shirley volunteered at the Clothing Exchange. She was very involved with the project and enjoyed her work there with her sister and friends.

She spent her summers gardening; first with her Mother-in-law Kate Horner, then with Glenn and his family. She loved animals, always sharing her home with “her kids” (the dogs and cats she had) that she spoiled rotten.

Shirley’s favorite activity was playing Bingo. She would go anywhere In Minnesota or Manitoba to play that was within driving distance and had friends in all those places.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Michael Horner; husband, Doran Horner; parents, Carl and Dorothy Pearson; sister, Beverly (Adolph) Lindgren; brother, Gary Pearson.

She is survived by her son, Glenn (Jeri) Horner; grandchildren, Katrina (Joshua) Friedrichs of Avon, MN, and Kassandra Horner of Apple Valley, MN; great-grandson, Gabriel Carpenter of Bloomington, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families.
