SWITCHING GEARS TO THE NATIONAL SPORTS SCENE…

Minnesota’s playoff hopes were dashed as they lost four consecutive games and six of seven, facing challenges due to Kirk Cousins’ torn Achilles tendon, and failing to find a suitable replacement; despite a late-game effort led by quarterback Nick Mullens, who threw for 396 yards and connected with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison for touchdowns, interceptions in the fourth quarter ultimately quashed the Vikings’ comeback, solidifying their elimination from postseason contention.

MEANWHILE  Jordan Love secured the Green Bay Packers’ playoff berth in his first year as starting quarterback, orchestrating a 17-9 win over the Bears in Week 18 with an impressive performance, throwing for 316 yards and two touchdowns, leading the team to their 10th consecutive victory against their rivals.

ON SATURDAY, Marco Rossi’s overtime goal propelled the Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 comeback victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets, marking Marc-Andre Fleury’s 551st career win, tying him with Patrick Roy for second all-time among NHL goalies; despite Cole Sillinger’s hat trick for the Blue Jackets, Fleury’s crucial saves and Marcus Johansson’s late equalizer secured the Wild’s win. Matt Boldy contributed with two power-play goals, and Brock Faber had two assists in the game.  THE WILD HOST THE DALLAS STARS TONIGHT.

Not good news for the Timberwolves fans last night.  Dallas’ formidable backcourt duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving overwhelmed the Timberwolves, who, despite holding a six-point lead late in the game, succumbed to a 15-2 scoring run by the Mavericks. The Wolves struggled to contain the All-Star guards and grappled with foul trouble, particularly with Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite a brief surge led by Towns and Edwards in the fourth quarter, the Wolves faltered in the final minutes, allowing Dallas to secure a 115-108 victory with a 13-0 run.

And finally the Golden Gophers mens hockey last night also were defeated.  Colorado College secured a 6-4 victory over the Gophers men’s hockey team at 3M Arena at Mariucci, capitalizing on three unanswered second-period goals and three more in the third. Jimmy Snuggerud’s two goals for the Gophers were not enough to overcome the Tigers’ offensive onslaught, with goals from Bret Link, Gleb Veremyev, Tyler Coffey, and others. Despite efforts to close the gap, including goals from John Mittelstadt and Brody Lamb, the Gophers fell short, setting the stage for a rematch on Monday at 7 p.m.
