The Minnesota Wild last night suffered another defeat, losing 4-0 to the Dallas Stars in a crucial game against their Central Division rivals. Despite Marc-Andre Fleury’s stellar performance for the Wild, rookie goaltender Matt Murray secured a shutout in his first start of the season for Dallas. This setback further hampers Minnesota’s playoff aspirations, as they remain winless in three significant division games in the past two weeks, facing an uphill battle in the competitive Western Conference standings.
This past weekend No. 4 North Dakota clinched a 6-2 victory over Alaska, securing a weekend sweep at the sold-out Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The dominant performance was led by UND’s new top line of Riese Gaber, Hunter Johannes, and Cameron Berg, contributing four goals and two assists, marking the Fighting Hawks’ first sweep over Alaska since 1991 and extending their unbeaten streak to 13 games.
With Minnesota’s loss this weekend, the Gophers have dropped out of the top 10 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live men’s college hockey poll after losing to Colorado College. Boston College retained the No. 1 spot, while Wisconsin moved up to No. 3 after two wins over Notre Dame, and Minnesota now sits at No. 11.
