Roseau County has 1573 Positive Cases; with 1 new cases reported today; and 14 accumulated deaths.
Wednesday’s coronavirus update from the Minnesota Department of Health includes 66 more deaths and more than 2,000 new cases of COVID-19.
There have now been 5,262 deaths from the virus during the pandemic, of which 64.5% (3,394) came from long-term care, including 43 of the 66 reported Wednesday. Wednesday’s update includes the death of a person in their early 40s from Ramsey County and the death of an individual aged 35-39 from Wright County.
Minnesota has yet to confirm the new variant of the coronavirus that is circulating in Europe and other parts of the world.
The state is now providing daily updates for how many people have received the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. Through Dec. 27, the state says 38,284 Minnesotans have been vaccinated.
The 2,019 positive results in Wednesday’s update were from a total of 25,729 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 7.84%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s test positivity rate over the past seven days is 4.78%, making Minnesota one of only four states – Alaska, Hawaii and Vermont are the others – in the U.S. under a 5% test positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

- Total tests: 5,527,037 (up from 5,501,277)
- People tested: 2,961,242 (up from 2,953,259)
- Positive cases: 413,107 (up from 411,110)
- Deaths: 5,262 – 162 of which are “probable*” (up from 5,196)
- Active cases: 17,428 (down from 17,604)
- Patients no longer requiring isolation: 395,679 (up from 393,506)
- Total people vaccinated: 38,284
