Ward Glen Smith passed away at Sanford Medical Center Sunday, August 7 at 10:30 AM at the age of 87, surrounded by his family.
Ward was the oldest of four children born to Glen and Irma Smith in Castlewood, SD on September 6, 1934. He lived in Castlewood until the age of 6, when the family moved to Warroad, Minnesota. He graduated from Warroad High School in 1953. He joined the United States Navy and completed boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. He was stationed in Bremerton, Washington until 1957.
In 1955, he met the woman who he was to spend the rest of his life with. Ward married Betty Gohr on September 12, 1958. They lived in Everett, WA. He owned his own service station, worked for Boeings, and worked for a GM dealership.
In 1963 Sharon, was born and in 1966, Glen arrived to complete the family.
In 1967, the family moved to a small farm south of Warroad, Minnesota, where he lived until 2021, when he and Betty moved into the Warroad Senior Living Center.
Ward worked for Marvin Windows and Doors for 41 years. After retirement he spent several years as a senior medical driver. During his spare time Ward enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, mowing his yard, and chocolate cake.
He loved family gatherings, spending time with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and most of all with Betty- the love of his life.
Ward is survived by his wife Betty of 64 years, his kids Sharon (Stacy) and Glen (Angela), six grandkids, 16 great grandkids, two sisters, two brothers in laws and one sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lee.
A Funeral Service for Ward Smith will be held at the Warroad Baptist Church on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 2:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Warroad.
