A CROOKSTON MAN MADE HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE LAST THURSDAY AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING AN INTOXICATED WOMAN. 20-YEAR OLD SUSANO ISAIAH PADILLA IS CHARGED WITH FRIST-DEGREE CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT, WHICH CARRIES A MAX PENALTY OF 30 YEARS IN PRISON, A MINIMUM SENTENCE OF 12 YEARS. A ROOMMATE WENT TO PICK THE WOMAN UP FROM PADILLA’S RESIDENCE, AND HAD RECEIVED A TEXT SAYING “HELP ME”. SHE SAYS SHE HAD FALLEN ASLEEP IN A CHAIR, BUT WOKE UP NAKED, IN PAIN, IN HIS BED. PADILLA SAYS HE BELIEVES SHE HAD CONSENTED.
A VEHICLE LEFT THE ROADWAY AND WENT INTO THE RED LAKE RIVER IN CROOKSTON IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS LAST FRIDAY. EVENTUALLY DIVE TEAMS LOCATED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED A LONE OCCUPANT HAD DIED. THEY WERE LATER IDENTIFIED AS 26-YEAR OLD WILLIAM TUSETH OF CROOKSTON. THE INCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
THE STATEWIDE YOUTH DEER HUNT BEGINS THIS WEEK. THAT SEASON RUNS THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. THAT IS FOR YOUTH 10-17 YEARS OLD AND THEY MUST HAVE A LICENSE. THOSE AGED 10-13 MUST HAVE AN ADULT ALONG.
AN ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED MONDAY IN KITTSON COUNTY HAS NOW RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF A MAN FROM LAPORTE. PATRICK GENDRON WAS RUN OVER BY A SUGAR BEET TRUCK WHILE AT THE HUMBOLDT BEET PILER. HE WAS REPORTEDLY WASHING HIS WINDOWS, LOST HIS BALANCE AND FELL BACKWARDS. THAT IS WHEN ANOTHER TRUCK COMING HIS DIRECTION COULDN’T MISS HIM AND RAN HIM OVER. HE WAS LIFE-FLIGHTED AT THE TIME AND PASSED AWAY ON WEDNESDAY. NO ONE HAS BEEN CHARGED AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT.

A Memorial Service for Stanley R. Melby of Greenbush, MN will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date.
Stan passed away at the age of 73.
