Lew A. Erickson passed away peacefully on January 23, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening at Helgeson Funeral Home from 5:00 -7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A celebration of Lew’s life is planned for Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau.

Lew was born July 25, 1956, in Roseau, Minnesota to Adolph and Evelyn (Swanson) Erickson. He grew up on the family farm in rural Wannaska with his six siblings. He graduated from Roseau High School in 1974, he then went on to complete undergraduate studies at Concordia College and completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. He married Kathryn Hedlund in 1979, they settled in Roseau and opened the Family Chiropractic Center a year later, and they proudly welcomed three sons in the 80’s.

Lew will be remembered for his community and church involvement, his love of the outdoors and his passion for helping people. He led Roseau Youth Hockey Association as President for 25 years and coached many teams, from the youngest players during Saturday Morning Mite League to State Championships with the Roseau Bantams of the 1980’s. Lew loved spending time watching his grandchildren play hockey and teaching them many life lessons. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He meant so much to many people and was always there to lend a helping hand. His legacy will live on through all the lives he touched.

Lew always felt most at home at deer camp, just a few miles from where he grew up near Wannaska. Over the years he spent countless hours mowing the trails, planting food plots for the deer and planting thousands of trees to create the perfect habitat to beat The Foley’s camp in the annual big buck contest. The Grouse Out will be one of many ways his spirit lives on.

Lew is survived by his wife, Kathy, three sons; Matthew (Bethany), Luke (Mary) and Jonathan (Tavo), and the pride and joy of his life – his beloved grandchildren; Lily, Max, Makenna, Owen and Olivia. He is also survived by his parents; Adolph and Evelyn, brothers; Carson (Julie), Mike, Kim, Lyle (Renae) and two sisters; Dianne (Gary) Bergstrom and Connie Rutherford. Mother-in-law; Erlys Hedlund, brothers-in-law; Keith (Val) Hedlund and Don (Sheila) Hedlund, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Neal, father-in-law Dell Hedlund and brother-in-law Robbie Rutherford.
