HAVING ALREADY SET A STATE RECORD LOW IN APRIL, THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN MINNESOTA IN MAY DROPPED TO 2%. THAT IS DOWN TWO-TENTHS FROM APRIL.

THE COUNCIL ON AMERICA-ISLAMIC RELATIONS IS CALLING FOR FEDERAL HATE CRIME CHARGES AGAINST SUZETTE GAY THOMPSON, THE WOMEN WHO ALLEGEDLY SET CURTAINS ON FIRE AT AN ISLAMIC CENTER IN EAST GRAND FORKS. THOSE PEOPLE WILL RUN IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION AND ASSUME THAT POSITION IN JANUARY. NOW, THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD IS SEEKING APPLICATIONS FROM THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN FILLING THAT SEAT UNTIL THE END OF THIS YEAR. THE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE APPOINTED TO THE POSITION. APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL FRIDAY, JUNE 24. THE COUNTY BOARD WILL THEN HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING ON TUESDAY, JUNE 28 TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE INPUT ON PROSPECTIVE APPOINTEES.

A GUARD AT MINNESOTA CORRECTIONAL FACILITY-STILLWATER AND AN INMATE SERVING A MURDER SENTENCE WERE INVOLVED IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP ALL WHILE RUNNING A METHAMPHETAMINE OPERATION INSIDE THE PRISON. A FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTED CORRECTIONS OFFICER FAITH ROSE GRATZ AND INMATE AXEL RENE KRAMER FOR THEIR ROLE IN THAT DISTRIBUTIONS SCHEME THAT WAS ACTIVE AT LEAST FROM JANUARY TO APRIL OF THIS YEAR.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR JEROME E. HELSTAD OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD MONDAY (11 AM) AT SPRUCE FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE SUNDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME AND ALSO ONE HOUR PRIOR ON MONDAY. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT NORLAND CEMETERY IN SALOL. JEROME WAS 92.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GARY LINDGREN WILL BE HELD TOMORROW AT THE ROOSEVELT COMMUNITY CENTER (2 PM) INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT NORLAND CEMETERY. GARY WAS 64.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GORDON HUERD OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD TOMORROW (10 AM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BEHELD ONE HOUR PRIOR. INTERMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT NORLAND CEMETERY IN SALOL. GORDON PASSED AWAY JUNE 8.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR CORK STOSKOPF WILL BE HELD TUESDAY AT MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU (4 PM). VISITATION WILL BE HELD MONDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU, WITH A 7:00 PRAYER SERVICE. CORK WAS 74.

More households in Minnesota are qualifying for a federal program that provides assistance with food.And, it comes at a time when inflation has caused grocery prices to rise.The Minnesota Legislature, during its last session, increased the income limit for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, from 165% of the federal poverty level to 200%. Woitock says about 1,400 additional households in Minnesota will be eligible.

A bird flu outbreak in the U.S. that led to the deaths of more than 40 million chickens and turkeys and contributed to a spike in egg and meat prices appears to be waning, but experts caution the virus hasn’t disappeared and worry another surge could take hold this fall. The Department of Agriculture isn’t ready to say the outbreak is winding down, but some state agriculture and industry officials are optimistic the end is near as hot weather spreads across the country. The cost of the outbreak is still being tallied but the USDA has already approved $793 million in additional funding this year.
