GOVERNOR WALZ AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR FLANAGAN ANNOUNCED THEIR SUPPORT FOR AN “OUTDOOR SCHOOL FOR ALL” BILL. THAT BILL WOULD PROVIDE UP TO $30 MILLION IN FUNDING, THAT WOULD GUARANTEE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERY FOURTH THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE STUDENT TO ATTEND AN OVERNIGHT OUTDOOR SCHOOL, SUCH AS THE EXPERIENCE AT WOLF RIDGE ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER IN FINLAND, WHICH MANY LOCAL SCHOOLS ATTEND.
88 PERCENT OF NORTHLAND COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE FACULTY PARTICIPATED IN A VOTE, AND 96% OF THEM VOTED “NO CONFIDENCE” IN THE LEADERSHIP OF PRESIDENT SANDRA KIDDOO. SHE HAS ONLY BEEN IN THAT ROLE SINCE JULY 2021. FACULTY LISTED COMMUNICATION, TRANSPARENCY BEHIND SIGNIFICANT DECISIONS, RETALIATION AGAINST THOSE WHO VOICE OPINIONS, AND OTHERS AS TOP CONCERNS. STEVEN OPDAHL OF OKLEE WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE MAN FOUND DEAD ON TUESDAY NIGHT AT DIGI-KEY, SUSPECTED OF HAVING DIED FROM HOMICIDAL VIOLENCE. A MURDER INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING. JORGE LUIS BENITEZ-ESTREMERA IS IN CUSTODY ON A SECOND-DEGREE INTENTIONAL MURDER CHARGE. THE INVESTIGATION SHOWS THAT THE ATTACK WAS CAUGHT ON SECURITY CAMERA, AND HAPPENED WHEN THE ASSAILANT DROVE UP TO THE BUILDING WHILE THE VICTIM WAS OUTSIDE HAVING A CIGARETTE. DURING AN INTERVIEW, HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW THE VICTIM PERSONALLY BUT THAT HE WAS “CONTAMINATED AND NEEDED TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE SYSTEM”.
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association won’t participate in this year’s Governor’s Deer Opener because of Gov. Tim Walz’s continued support for anti-gun legislation and attempts to ban wolf hunting, the group said this week. MDHA, along with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Explore Minnesota, had been an organizing partner of the event since the inaugural Governor’s Deer Opener in 2002.
