POLARIS INDUSTRIES IN ROSEAU IS TRYING TO HIRE ONE HUNDRED FULLTIME EMPLOYEES,  AS WELL AS SEASONAL WORKERS.

POLARIS OFFICIALS SAY THEY’VE BEEN REACHING TO AREAS WITH HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT IN MINNESOTA,  WITH SOME SUCCESS.

 

THE PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE  WalletHub  SAYS MINNESOTA HAS THE SMALLEST DRUG PROBLEM IN THE NATION,  BASED ON METRICS LIKE ARREST AND OVERDOSE RATES, AND THE NUMBER OF OPIOID PRESCRIPTIONS.

HAWAII,  KANSAS AND IDAHO HAVE THE NEXT SMALLEST DRUG PROBLEM IN THE U.S.

THE LARGEST,  ACCORDING TO THE WEBSITE,  IS IN MISSOURI, WEST VIRGINIA AND MICHIGAN.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETS IN SPECIAL SESSION MONDAY EVENING.  AMONG OTHER THINGS,  THEY’LL TALK THE IMPACT OF REDUCED HOURS AT THE ROSEAU PORT OF ENTRY.

JAN CARR HERSETH,  WITH LIFECARE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH,  SAYS THE CORONVIRUS PANDEMIC HAS CHANGED THE WAY SERVICES ARE OFFERED;  INCLUDING MENTAL TELE-HEALTH.

AN ASSOCIATION OF MINNESOTA COUNTIES BLUE RIBBON GOVERNANCE PANEL IS MEETING TWICE WEEKLY TO LOOK AT THE SUSTAINABILITY OF COVID-DRIVEN OPERATIONS CHANGES;

AND WHETHER THOSE CHANGES COULD BE MADE PERMANENT AFTER RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED.

SOME OF THOSE CHANGES,  NECESSITATED BY SOCIAL DISTANCING,  INCLUDING WORKING FROM HOME  AND  DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES WAIVERS.

ROSEAU COUNTY COMMISSIONER JACK SWANSON IS ONE OF THE TWO DOZEN MEMBERS OF THAT PANEL.

 

A ROSEAU COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COVID  RESPONSE PLAN INCLUDES RAPID CONTACT TRACING LOCALLY,  IF AN OUTBREAK OCCURS.

 

THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION HAS SHIFTED IT’S EFFORTS TO CORONAVIRUS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS.

KAREN WHITE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION,  WHOSE BOARD INCLUDES STEVE ANDERSON OF WARROAD;  TODD BECKEL OF BAUDETTE;  AND KRISTIN EGGERLING OF HALLOCK.

 

A BONDING BILL MAY OR MAY NOT BE PASSED BY THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE THIS YEAR,  DUE TO POLITICAL BICKERING;

BUT IF A PUBLIC WORKS BILL IS PASSED,  ANN MULHOLLAND WITH THE NATURE CONSERVANCY SAYS CONSERVATION SPENDING SHOULD BE PART OF IT.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS MONDAY EVENING IN REGULAR MONTHLY SESSION.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE LOW BID OF STRATA CORP FOR A MUNICIPAL AIRPORT LIGHTING SYSTEM PROJECT.

THAT BID WAS  846 THOUSAND DOLLARS,  WHICH EXCEEDS AN ENGINEER’S ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK.

 

A MEMORIAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR DANIEL KIMBROUGH OF ROOSEVELT WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE.

DANIEL KIMBROUGH DIED IN LATE APRIL AFTER A THREE WEEK STRUGGLE WITH COVID-19;  HE WAS  53.

 

THE ROSEAU PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT HAS GOTTEN THE GO-AHEAD FOR A SUMMER CAMP.

PARKS AND REC DIRECTOR SARA HAMANN SAYS THE CAMP WILL BE DIRECTED BY MIRANDA PETERSON.

 

GOVERNOR TIM WALZ HAS GIVEN MINNESOTA SCHOOLS THE OPTION TO OFFER SUMMER LEARNING THROUGH A HYBRID MODEL OF BOTH DISTANCE LEARNING AND  IN-SCHOOL LEARNING.

THIS GIVES SCHOOLS THE FLEXIBILITY FOR SOME  IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION IF THEY COMPLY WITH MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH GUIDELINES.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WILL ISSUE FULL-SUMMER OVERWEIGHT PERMITS IN THE NORTH AND NORTH-CENTRAL  FROST ZONES STARTING NEXT THURSDAY  (May  21).

THOSE SUMMER OVERWEIGHT PERMITS BECOME AVAILABLE SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER SPRING LOAD RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED.
