THE FIREARMS DEER SEASON OPENS THIS WEEKEND ACROSS MINNESOTA. THERE IS SOME INCREASED CONCERN OVER CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE, AS MOST RECENTLY THERE WAS A FEARED CASE IN A DEER KILLED NEAR CLIMAX.

STATE LEGISLATORS WORKED PRIVATELY YESTERDAY ON FINDING A SOLUTION ON HOW TO ALLOCATED THE $250 MILLION IN HERO PAY, MEANT FOR FRONT LINE WORKERS THAT STAYED ON THE JOB THROUGH THE PANDEMIC. THERE IS ROAD CONSTRUCTION ON THE MOOSE RIVER WEST ROAD THAT WILL CONTINUE THROUGH NOVEMBER 12TH. THE SECTION OF ROAD FROM GATES CORNER TO THE NORTH MOOSE DIKE IS CLOSED.
THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT HAS VOTED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE ROSEAU LAKE PROJECT, DESPITE CRITICISM FROM LOCAL LANDOWNERS. THE PROJECT SEEKS TO MITIGATE FLOOD RISK IN THE DISTRICT AND RESTORE WETLAND HABITATS AND IMPROVE WATER QUALITY IN THE WATERSHED. LANDOWNERS CLAIM THE SYSTEM OF DIKES WILL MAKE FARMLAND NEAR THE PROJECT UNUSABLE.
THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, RE-VISITED IT’S 2022 PRELIMINARY BUDGET, WHICH PROJECTS A SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR DEFICIT FOR NEXT YEAR, OPTIONS IN FRONT OF THE COUNCIL INCLUDE RAISING REVENUE (THROUGH THE LEVY AND UTILITY FEES), CUTTING SPENDING (WHICH WOULD MEAN LAYING OFF EMPLOYEES AND/OR ELIMINATING CAPITAL PROJECTS) OR SPENDING FROM THE RESERVE FUND. COUNCIL MEMBERS SUGGESTED AN APPROACH INCORPORATING ALL THREE OPTIONS. THE CITY’S TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING IS DECEMBER 6TH.

THAT IS FOR THOSE WHO OWN AND OCCUPY A RESIDENCE THAT YOU DID NOT OWN AND OCCUPY ON JANUARY 2 OF THIS YEAR, OR IF YOU OCCUPY A RESIDENCE OWNED BY A RELATIVE.
