Juan Gallegos Deleon Jr. and Abelardo Deleon waived their Thursday, Sept. 12, omnibus hearings and entered not guilty pleas to 14 felony counts. Two Crookston brothers accused of conspiracy to commit murder, as well as numerous methamphetamine crimes. The conspiracy to commit murder charge revolves around the disappearance of Deleon’s stepson.

An 81-year-old Brainerd man suffered fatal injuries after his paraglider appeared to have mechanical issues and crashed into trees. The man, identified Thursday as Wayne Kyar, was flying a paraglider with a friend on the warm summer afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 11. The friend landed his paraglider in an open grassy field by North Central Speedway. Kyar crashed into a tree, and an early assessment shows he likely unbuckled himself, and then fell somewhere close to 50 feet.

Feedback on updated versions of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ duck and pheasant action plans is being accepted through  Friday, Oct. 11. The next action plan put into place will cover a period of five years from 2025-2030. Drafts of the plans are available on the DNR webpage. Public webinars will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, during which staff will explain proposed plan updates and take comments.

The Minnesota State Patrol has released the name of the drivers involved in Thursday morning’s bus crash. According to the State Patrol, Svea Snickers, 19, of Alborn, Minn. was driving a Toyota RAV4 when she T-boned the school bus carrying 20 Cherry students. She was airlifted to the Virginia hospital but is now in Duluth for life-threatening injuries.
Shawn Lindula, 52, of Iron, Minn. was the driver of the school bus. He was sent by ambulance to the Virginia hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The students’ identities or ages have not been released. The severity of their injuries also was not disclosed.
The crash is still under investigation.

FOSSTON MAYOR JIM OFFERDAHL SAYS THE FIRST CARE TASKFORCE IS NOT DONE FIGHTING TO TAKE BACK CONTROL OF THE CITY HOSPITAL FROM ESSENTIA. AN ARIBITRATION PANEL HAS RULED IN FAVOR OF ESSENTIA IN THEIR DISPUTE WITH THE CITY OF FOSSTON. THE DISPUTE RELATES TO WHAT HTE CITY BELIEVES IS A BREACH IN THE CONTRACT BY NO LONGER PROVIDING LABOR AND DELIVERY SERVICES, WHICH THEY VIEWED AS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE. THOSE SERVICES ARE NOW DIRECTED TO DETROIT LAKES. THE VOTE WAS 2-1 IN FAVOR OF ESSENTIA, BUT OFFERDAHL SAYS THE FACT THAT THERE WAS A VOTE IN THEIR FAVOR, SHOWS THE CITY’S CLAIM HAS VALIDITY.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Delores M. Taus will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush from 5-7PM with a Rosary Service starting at 6:40 PM followed by a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday, Interment will take place at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Strathcona, MN.

A Funeral Service for Ronni D. Peterson of Greenbush, MN will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at America Cemetery in Warroad, MN.
Ronnie was 41.
