SHOPPERS AT SUPER ONE FOODS ACROSS NORTHERN MINNESOTA, WISCONSIN, AND THE U-P OF MICHIGAN HELPED TO RAISE OVER $44,000 TO HELP THOSE LIVING WITH MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY, ALS, AND OTHER NEURO-MUSCULAR DISEASES DURING THE MDA SHAMROCKS CAMPAIGN. DURING THAT CAMPAIGN, CUSTOMERS CAN PURCHASE A SHAMROCK FOR DONATION AMOUNTS AS SMALL AS $1.
THE MINNESOTA DNR IS MOVING AHEAD WITH A PLAN TO CREATE A SEPARATE BEAR PERMIT AREA FOR THE NORTHWEST ANGLE, THAT WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR THE SEASON THIS YEAR FROM EARLY SEPTEMBER THROUGH MID-OCTOBER. THE ANGLE WAS ALWAYS PART OF PERMIT AREA 12, BUT WILL NOW STAND ALONE AND WILL HAVE 10 PERMITS OFFERED. THE PLAN HAD FACED OPPOSITION FROM THE RED LAKE TRIBAL COUNCIL, WHO DESPITE THEIR OPPOSITION, HAS LENT THEIR SUPPORT TO THE PLAN.
LAST WEEKEND ROSEAU SENT A YOUTH WRESTLING TEAM TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND TWO YOUNG WRESTLERS CAME HOME AS STATE CHAMPIONS. BENTLEY PERALTA CAME OUT ON TOP AT A KINDERGARTEN LEVEL, SIXTH GRADER SETH COSSENTINE ALSO BROUGHT HOME A CHAMPIONSHIP.
ROSEAU COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAYS ARE COMING IN APRIL AND MAY. THE FIRST OF THOSE IS SATURDAY, APRIL 23RD FOR THOSE IN WARROAD. THREE BROTHERS FROM GRAFTON, NORTH DAKOTA HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY SEVERELY BEATING 20-YEAR OLD KURTIS GRAVER OF GRAFTON LAST WEEKEND. GRAVER SAYS HE WAS WAITING IN HIS CAR OUTSIDE THE LAST CHANCE BAR WHILE A FRIEND WENT INSIDE TO PICKUP FOOD, THAT’S WHEN THE THREE MEN PULLED HIM OUT HIS CAR IN THE UNPROVOKED ATTACK. THE THREE HAD JUST BEEN KICKED OUT OF THE BAR FOR FIGHTING INSIDE WITH ANOTHER GROUP. GRAVER KNEW THE MEN ENOUGH TO IDENTIFY THEM BY NAME.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR WILLIAM “BILL” PROVENCE WILL BE HELD THIS THURSDAY AT MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU (2 PM) WITH VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE WEDNESDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. INTERMENT WILL BE AT SPRUCE CEMETERY IN ROSEAU. BILL PROVENCE WAS 100.
