THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETS TOMORROW EVENING FOR THEIR ANNUAL STATE-REQUIRED TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING.

THE BOARD’S PROPOSED  PROPERTY  TAX LEVY FOR NEXT YEAR IS FOR A THREE PERCENT INCREASE;  BUT INCREASING RESIDENTIAL VALUES IN SOME PARTS OF THE COUNTY WOULD CREATE A LARGER INCREASE FOR THOSE TAXPAYERS.

COUNTY ASSESSOR LIZ LUND,  WHO SAYS VALUATIONS OF SOME OTHER PROPERTY CLASSES  (LIKE AG AND RURAL VACANT LAND)  DECREASED OVER THE PAST YEAR;  SO THOSE PROPERTY OWNERS WOULD SEE A TAX REDUCTION.

 

 

NEW RESEARCH FROM THE PEW CHARITABLE TRUSTS SHOWS THAT FLOOD EVENTS ARE BECOMING MORE COMMON AND MORE COSTLY ACROSS THE U.S.

CALLED  “MITIGATION MATTERS:  POLICY SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE LOCAL FLOOD RISK”,  THE STUDY PROFILES WORK BEING DONE IN MINNESOTA.

MATT FUCHS,  WITH PEW,  SAYS FLOODING HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY.
