REPRESENTATIVE MICHELLE FISHBACH ISSUED A STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION ON THE “SUPPORTING PREGNANT AND PARENTING WOMEN AND FAMILIES ACT” WHICH WOULD ENSURE THAT TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE TO NEEDY FAMILIES DOLLARS CAN BE PROVIDED TO PREGNANCY CENTERS THAT SUPPORT THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER AND UNBORN BABY. LAST FALL, A RULE WAS PROPOSED THAT COULD RESTRICT STATES FROM PROVIDING THOSE FUNDS BECAUSE THOSE CENTERS “ONLY HELP WOMEN AFTER THEY BECOME PREGNANT.”

LAST WEEK, GOVERNOR WALZ WAS IN SOUTHERN MINNESOTA DISCUSSING THE CONTINUED EFFORTS TO EXPAND BROADBAND SERVICES TO EVERY AREA OF THE STATE. HE SPOKE WITH A PROVIDER IN BLUE EARTH. OVER THE PAST YEAR, THE STATE HAS PROVIDED ENOUGH FUNDING TO EXPAND BROADBAND TO 46,000 HOMES AND BUSINESS THAT PREVIOUSLY DIDN’T’ HAVE ACCESS..
THE UNIVERSAL FREE SCHOOL MEALS PLAN IS BEING WELL RECEIVED BY FAMILIES WITH SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN. LAST WEEK IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT 16 MILLION TOTAL MEAL ARE SERVED MONTHLY TO STUDENTS, THAT AN INCREASE OF OVER 1 MILLION MONTHLY COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS. THE PLAN DID COME UNDER SOME SCRUTINY RECENTLY AS IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT AT THIS PACE, THE PREVIOUSLY EXPECTED BUDGET NUMBERS WOULDN’T BE ENOUGH TO COVER THE PROGRAM.
