ON FRIDAY, THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ISSUED A PRESS RELEASE ON A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED IN THE AFTERNOON OF JULY 5 ON COUNTY ROAD 9, NEAR COUNTY ROAD 13. A PICKUP DRIVEN BY 45-YEAR OLD SARAH LUCEK OF WANNASKA STRUCK A AN ATV FROM BEHIND THAT WAS DRIVEN BY 61-YEAR OLD ROBERT GRUGAL OF ROSEAU. HE WAS AIRLIFTED OUT WITH SEVERE INJURIES. LUCEK AND THE TWO JUVENILE PASSENGERS SUSTAINED NO APPARENT INJURIES.
THERE IS A CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR THIS THURSDAY AT ROSEAU’S RIVERVIEW PARK GAZEBO, AS SLOUGHGRASS WILL TAKE TO THE STAGE. LIFECARE WILL SERVE A FUNDRAISING MEAL. THERE IS NO CONCERT FOR NEXT WEEK.
A RED LAKE FALLS MAN REACHED A PLEA AGREEMENT, AND HAS NOW PLEADED GUILTY TO ONE COUNT OF FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT. 39-YEAR OLD OSCAR ALFREDO ALFARO WAS CHARGED AFTER A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL ACCUSED HIM OF SEXUALLY ABUSING HER MULTIPLE TIMES.
THE MAN CHARGED WITH THE MURDER OF FORMER ROSEAU RESIDENT MANI STARREN, WHOSE REMAINS WERE FOUND ABOUT A WEEK AGO, AFTER HAVING BEEN MISSING FOR MORE THAN TWO MONTHS, IS NOW THOUGHT TO BE LINKED TO THE DEATH OF ANOTHER 33-YEAR OLD LAKEVILLE WOMAN WHOSE REMAINS WERE FOUND THURSDAY, AFTER MISSING FOR TWO YEARS.
DELORES WALSH OF BADGER AND JOE OLAFSON OF WARROAD ARE ROSEAU COUNTY’S OUTSTANDING SENIOR CITIZEN VOLUNTEER AWARD WINNERS. THEY WILL BE RECOGNIZED AT CHURCH NIGHT OF THE ROSEAU COUNTY FAIR AND ARE NOW UP FOR STATEWIDE RECOGNITION AT THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR.
A CANCER SURVIVOR PICNIC IS BEING HELD THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING AT THE ROSEAU CITY PARK. IT BEGINS AT 6:30 AND KATHY MAGNUSSON WILL BE A SPEAKER AT 7:00. THEY’LL HAVE LIGHT REFRESHMENTS. ON THAT NOTE, RELAY FOR LIFE OF ROSEAU COUNTY WILL BE HELD AUGUST 17 AT THE GAZEBO IN ROSEAU.
ANDERS ODEGAARD PLEADED GUILTY, VIA AN ALFORD PLEA, TO SECOND DEGREE MURDER WITHOUT INTENT WHILE COMMITTING A FELONY AND WILL BE SENTENCED IN AUGUST. THAT’S RELATED TO AN INCIDENT THAT LED TO DEATH OF HIS EX-WIFE, CARISSA ODEGAARD, LAST SUMMER IN WARREN. THE TWO HAD FIVE CHILDREN TOGETHER, THREE OF THEM WERE WITNESSES TO THE ATTACK.
A MAHNOMEN WOMAN IS BEHIND BARS AFTER A VIOLENT AND RANDOM ATTACK ON TO YOUNG WOMEN IN RED LAKE FALLS. 24-YEAR OLD HAILEY DENOMIE IS ACCUSED OF SMASHING TWO WOMEN IN THE FACE WITH A ROCK AND HOLDING ONE OF THEM UNDERWATER NEAR VOYAGEUR’S VIEW. AUTHORITIES SAY MORE THAN TWO DOZEN PEOPLE WERE PRESENT AND IT HAD TURNED INTO A BRAWL. RED LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF MITCH BERNSTEIN SAID MORE PEOPLE WILL LIKELY FACE CHARGES.
