GOVERNOR TIM WALZ SIGNED A BILL INTO LAW THAT WILL EXPAND ACCESS TO NATIONAL GUARD RETENTION BONUSES. PREVIOUSLY, ENLISTMENT OR REENLISTMENT BONUSES WERE ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED LESS THAN 12 YEAR. THIS BILL MAKES THAT BONUS AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED LONGER. RECENT CHANGES TO FEDERAL RETIREMENT ELIGIBILITY RULES HAVE REDUCED THE INCENTIVE FOR OLDER MEMBERS OF THE GUARD TO REENLIST.
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ENDORSED A NUMBER OF CANDIDATES AT THE END OF LAST WEEK, CHOOSING TO SUPPORT KEITH ELLISON IN ANOTHER TERM FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL, PEGGY FLANAGAN FOR LT. GOVERNOR, TIM WALZ FOR GOVERNOR, AND JULIE BLAHA FOR STATE AUDITOR.
