CONTROVERSY OVER LEADERSHIP AT A CITY-OWNED NURSING HOME IN FERTILE IS TEARING THE TOWN APART, ACCORDING TO ONE EMPLOYEE. ANGIE LEITING, WHO HAS WORKED FOR THE HOME FOR 34 YEARS, THE PAST 9 AS ADMINISTRATOR AT FAIR MEADOW NURSING HOME, WAS FORCED TO RESIGN OR BE FIRED. SHE SAYS THE COUNCIL GAVE A LIST OF SEVEN REASONS, INCLUDING ALLOWING EMPLOYEES TO CASH OUT MORE VACATION TIME THAN POLICY ALLOWS AND REORGANIZING PERSONNEL. SHE WAS ALSO GIVEN A RESTRAINING ORDER, MEANING SHE CAN NOT VISIT HER OWN MOTHER, WHO IS A RESIDENT OF THE HOME. THE COMMUNITY HAS COME TOGETHER TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR HER WITH CAMPAIGN-STYLE YARD SIGNS.
THE GRAND FORKS HERALD HAS A STORY ON MINNESOTA DNR OFFICERS WHO HAVE SPENT TIME IN CANADA ASSISTING IN FIGHTING WILDFIRES. THE DNR IS PART OF THE GREAT LAKES FOREST FIRE COMPACT, WHICH WILL SEND EMPLOYEES WHO ARE WILLING TO WORK ON FIRES IN OTHER AREAS. THE TWO OFFICERS FEATURED WERE WORKING IN MANITOBA, AND SERVE OUT OF THE DETROIT LAKES AND NIMROD DNR OFFICE.
A 49-YEAR OLD MAN FROM HILL CITY HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 37 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THE 2022 MURDER OF HIS BROTHER IN AITKIN COUNTY. JAMES HESS WAS SENTENCED FOR THE MURDER OF WILLIAM HESS. HE HAD CLAIMED THAT HE CAME HOME TO FIND HIS BROTHER THERE, MAKING THREATS, AND CLAIMED THE SHOOTING WAS SELF-DEFENSE.
A 19-YEAR OLD WOMAN IS CHARGED WITH MURDER AND MANSLAUGHTER IN THE OVERDOSE DEATH OF A WILLMAR MAN LAST YEAR. MERCEDES CARPENTER MADE HER FIRST COURT APPEARANCE ON TUESDAY. DOCUMENTS SAY THAT SHE ASSISTED IN THE SETUP OF THE DRUG SALE THAT EVENTUALLY LED TO THE DEATH. THE 26-YEAR OLD MAN WHO ACTUALLY MADE THAT SALE IS ALSO FACING THE SAME CHARGES.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR DONALD BLAZEK OF MIDDLE RIVER WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (10:30 AM) AT ST JOSEPH’S CHURCH IN MIDDLE RIVER. VISITATION WILL FRIDAY (5 PM) WITH A DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET AND HOLAY ROSARY AT 6:30, FOLLOWED BY A 7 PM PRAYER SERVICE. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE AN HOUR PRIOR ON SATURDAY.
