MINNESOTA IS SEEING A DROP IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE OBTAINING PERMITS TO CARRY. LAST YEAR, ONLY 65,257 PERMITS WERE ISSUED, DOWN FROM ALL-TIME RECORD OF 106,000 IN 2021. A SPIKE IN PERMITS CAME IN 2020, AND THIS YEAR’S NUMBER IS CLOSER TO WHAT THEY WERE ISSUING PRIOR TO THAT, WHEN ANNUALLY THE NUMBER WOULD RANGE FROM 40,000 TO 70,000. THE TREND SEEMS TO BE IN BOTH URBAN AND RURAL AREAS.

SANFORD MEDICAL CENTER IN THIEF RIVER FALLS HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS A TOP 100 CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL IN 2023 BY THE CHARTIS CENTER FOR RURAL HEALTH. THAT GROUP HAS BEEN ISSUING THAT RECOGNITION FOR 13 YEARS. LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER IN ROSEAU HAS HAD THAT DISTINCTION IN 2018, 2020, 2021, AND 2022.
MARCH 14 IS TOWNSHIP DAY, THAT IS THE DATE THAT TOWNSHIPS WILL HOLD THEIR ANNUAL MEETINGS. THIS IS SET ANNUALLY FOR THE SECOND TUESDAY IN MARCH. MANY WILL HOLD TOWNSHIP OFFICER ELECTIONS, AND VOTE ON AND DISUCSS OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE AFFECTING THE TOWNSHIP.
A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR CHREST HAMNESS WILL BE HELD AT GRACE EVANGELICAL CHURCH IN STRATHCONA ON SATURDAY (10:30 AM) WITH VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR. THERE WILL ALSO BE A FRIDAY EVENING VISITATION FROM 5:00-7:00 AT THE CHURCH. CHREST HAMNESS PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 95 YEARS, 11 MONTHS, 14 DAYS ON FEBRUARY 28.
