A MASTER PLAN FOR “NORTHERLY PARK”, A NEW PROPOSED PARK AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE HAS BEEN APPROVED AND THEY WILL NOW SEEK GRANT FUNDING. IT’LL BE SITUATED ON 160 ACRES OF COUNTY OWNED LAND AND WOULD INCLUDE PROPOSED AMENITIES SUCH AS A PLAYGROUND, FLOATING DOCK, PAVED AND GRAVEL TRAILS, A BOARDWALK, CANOE AND KAYAK LAUNCH, VIEWING TOWER, AND VISITOR’S CENTER. THEY ARE HOPING SOME CONSTRUCTION COULD BEGIN IN 2026, USING A PHASED IN APPROACH.
THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA WILL BECOME THE FOURTH UNIVERSITY IN THE NATION TO PARTICIPATE IN IT’S ENHANCED AIR TRAFFIC-COLLEGIATE TRAINING INITIATIVE. THAT ALLOWS THE SCHOOL TO GRADUATE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS DIRECTLY INTO THE WORKFORCE, ABLE TO BYPASS AN FAA AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER ACADEMY IN OKLAHOMA CITY, AS THAT TRAINING WILL BE INCLUDED WITHIN THEIR DEGREE PROGRAM.
THE MINNESOTA EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HAS DETERMINED THAT MORE THAN 1 IN 4 STUDENTS MISSED AT LEAST 10% OF SCHOOL DAYS DUE TO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES OR SUSPENSIONS, AND THEY ARE LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS TO PRESENT BEFORE THE CAPITOL BUT ARE FINDING IT DIFFICULT. THEY SAY MAN INSTANCES ARE UNIQUE AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT IT IS NOT JUST SOMEONE NOT WANTING TO BE IN SCHOOL. IN MINNESOTA SCHOOL IS REQUIRED BY LAW FROM THE AGE OF 7 TO 17.
GOVERNOR WALZ IS ANNOUNCING $4.5 MILLION IN SUPPORT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING FOR 46 LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ACROSS THE STATE. THAT SHOULD HELP IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 100 CANDIDATES WHO ARE LOOKING TO TRANSITION INTO A LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER.

Joe Theis of Baudette, MN passed away at this home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the age of 66. Per Joe’s wishes, a private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
